I'm just wondering how your child feels about going back in September. My ds was only just starting to settle into year 7 and find his friendship group although still quite raw and new. He's been ery cuddly lately and is really anxious about going back one about the virus but also jusy readjusting. He's also worried about the jump from year 7 to year 8 work. Do you think there will be much support for this year group? I know the new year 7s will need alot of support with settling but it does feel like the year 8's will be starting again in a way. It's such an important year for transition as it's a big jump from primary to secondary.

Only just seen this thread. Yes I have one who suffers greatly with anxiety at the best of times. Home working actually suited her much better emotionally although she needed a kick up the bum work-wise. But her year 7 head is super and has made a point of saying that she considers them year 7.5 and she's there for anyone who feels they still need Yr7 support, if that makes sense, or if they don't feel comfortable taking to Yr8 head who I believe is also good. It's a great school, I think they'll take everything into account.

Grin at your DD's lunch @Malmontar!

I'm finding this thread quite reassuring, my Y7/8 DD was the only kid from her primary in her new school whilst lots of the others went to primary school together. I was worried that she hadn't been keeping up with the few secondary friends she'd started to make, and she is apprehensive about rekindling her social life in September, but I'm quite sure the school are all-too aware of the extra support all the kids will need and am pretty confident of their ability to provide it.

As I keep reminding DD, it's not as if everyone has been carrying on as normal without her, they've all been in the same boat.

Yes my DD is anxious too, not helped by her first period last month, which was a complete nightmare and ended with a blood transfusion! She’s on meds whilst waiting to see the gynaecologist but the fear of that heavy bleeding in school is making her very worried. She isn’t a huge fan of school, though is bright, but she was settling in well and making new friends. I do hope the year 8’s get enough support and not just focused on the year 7’s
