Good shops for 6th form boys suits

DS needs to wear suit for 6th form rather than uniform. What retailers are good for this as often on looking online I find that "boys" stop at 15/16 years. Would be great to get recommendations that are easy on the wallet too!

Next

We have just bought two from ASOS. But my 16 year old is almost 6’5.Shock. They are the only place that do 30’ waist with 38’ leg so he’s been wearing their suit trousers as school trousers since year 10.

Top man?

Thanks I'll look into those!

There was an identical thread the other day. Most posters, including me, suggested Next.

M&S
Matalan

Get 2 pairs of trousers to go with the jacket to help it last longer.

umberellaonesie · 04/08/2020 21:13

Matalan, you can get machine washable ones they was well look smart and cheaply replaced when inevitable football incidents happen to trouser knees

3teens2cats · 04/08/2020 21:19

Next

Mustbetimeforachange · 04/08/2020 22:17

Wherever you get them, get washable

ThankyouPeter · 05/08/2020 07:41

Another vote for Next. They do various fits and lengths so is quite easy to fit even the most awkward size child.

herecomesthsun · 05/08/2020 13:15

Washable is good.\but if I wanted to pander to DS's inner peacock I would happily take him to T|K Maxx and go designer for the same price.

lazeonthesofa · 05/08/2020 23:16

Thanks everyone. I'll go through the next, m&s and Mataram website over the weekend. And 2x trousers and one jacket is defo a great plan.

Ebay! I got 2 suits and 5 shirts (all Jermyn St brands) for under £50! Having seen what my DS does to his clothes I refuse to buy anything new for it to get trashed!

houselikeashed · 06/08/2020 21:41

Next and M and S. They do good sizes for tall and skinny boys.

netflixismysidehustle · 07/08/2020 14:39

My ds wore a lot of Primark

Darbs76 · 12/08/2020 10:23

Yep my son needs to wear a suit too. Do you think you can get away with 2 suits? Or need 3? So expensive

neutralintelligence · 12/08/2020 10:38

I may have this problem too, depending on how next Thursday goes. Just to add, I am not keen - obviously you can get cheap suits, but unless you wash them every day or two, they are either going to be grubby or you are going to have buy a couple.
I can see on other threads, people mention 'smart casual', which is much more achievable.
When I was sixth form it was seen as a sixth form privilege to be able to wear our home clothes (within reason). This smart business suit idea is not one that I agree with. Lots of expense, multiple online orders to find the right fit - and probably at the last minute too after results next week.
Sorry to moan, but if anyone is reading who decides these things, why is sixth form uniform even harder to sort than years 7-11 and when did this suit idea start?
[adding yet another thing to sort out and worry about in the next 3 weeks to my very very long list]

collywobble · 12/08/2020 16:31

We got two really lovely ones from River island. Great leg length too as we have a 6ft 5 giant too

Jamdemic · 27/08/2020 09:57

I hope it's ok to ask another question related to this: With their suits in the sixth form do they tend to wear a school shirt or a grown-up shirt, if you see what I mean?
I cannot find a grown-up shirt that fits because they are all done by neck size. A 16 year old will often have a narrow neck compared to their body size so all shirts that fit on neck won't do up!
I need somewhere that will deliver quickly. I have tried Next but am having the neck size problem. A size 16 or 17 year old school shirt would fit OK, but DS is adamant that will not do with a suit!

FinnyStory · 27/08/2020 09:58

If your son doesn't have an opinion on this, Next. If he's interested in clothes he won't want that but it will cost you a lot more Grin

Jamdemic · 27/08/2020 10:28

I agree the Next suits (for men) are good and not too much money.
But again: what shirts do they wear???
Apparently a shirt with a chest pocket equals a school uniform shirt - is that right?
How can I get a suitable shirt that is sized by age, e.g. 16 / 17 years, without getting a school shirt?
Recommendations welcome.

Darbs76 · 27/08/2020 13:23

Have a look on next clearance on the website - we have ordered 4 suits for DS to try and less than £40 each. Only they are 3wks delivery so might have to buy him a cheap black suit jacket from primark for the first few weeks
