What is it like for boarders?

No I don't .

My father's family were in Ewhurst, so a bit further south. My parents are at Three Chimneys. My aunt is in Rolvenden Layne. I don't know anyone particularly in Cranbrook itself.

Hello

I went to Cranbrook. I was a day pupil as I lived in Goudhurst and then Hawkhurst, but spent so much time in with my best friend who was a boarder in Blubery that my parents tried to (unsuccessfully) get me a boarding place.

Yes there was a lot of partying - used to drink to excess underage in the Prince, smoked 20 Marlborogh Lights a day and learnt everything I need to know about spliff! But that was in the 1980s...

I have criticisms of the school, but then it was 20 years ago and things are probably v different.

Kind of hoping that my own kids will go there (if I win the lottery to move back).

Anna8888 I have emailed the Lille school and they are posting me all the relevant information.

Re: Cranbrook boarding, yes you can weekly board and most boarders do just that.

I haven't been to look around yet but its on my list.

Anna8888 · 08/10/2007 15:56

Cammelia - good .

When does your DD move to secondary school?

Cammelia · 08/10/2007 15:59

She's at a prep which finishes at Year 8.

She's in Year 6 currently

Been for a look round - love it. Seems to have loads of facilities.

Matrons are lovely. Teachers eager and interested in pupils. Head is great but a bit scary - but that is exactly how heads should be IMO.

Boarding house for boys a bit run down, but I doubt the boys are bothered about this. Loads of activities for kids not going home at weekends - looks like quite a few choose not to go home at weekends cause they would rather do the fun activities!

Will def go for a place for DS1.

Boarding a bargain at under 10k a year.

YES! He passed!!!

Congratulations!

feelingfedup · 27/12/2007 12:47

Thanks sparkle.

Little bit dissapointed by recent Ofstead 1 & 2 for everything, but only a 2 overall. I was hoping for an 'outstanding', instead of a 'good'.

Does anyone know if the same admissions criteria apply to both boarders and day pupils ie both have to be within the top 25% ability? Also can boarders come from anywhere and not just Kent?

evelina · 27/12/2007 19:27

One more question- do most state primary pupils go to Angley for 2 years or do some go to a prep school for 2 years until entrance at age 13?

seeker · 28/12/2007 13:36

Some state grammars in Kent do the IB.

feelingfedup · 28/12/2007 16:30

Yes, boarders can come from anywhere in the country (we are nowhere near catchment area) - and further afield if child is British citizen.

Selection criteria for day and boarders is the same - thay all have to pass the same test.

Thanks feelingfedup. I had a look at the website and ofsted today and it made it a bit clearer. The age 13 thing is a bit of a problem, due to the reliance on previous attendance at a private prep. Hope your ds is happy there.

AnyaJulia · 10/11/2008 16:54

Is it difficult to get into the EABJM in Lille?

fuffle · 11/11/2008 18:14

Hi, I'm new and hope you don't mind me joining the discussion? My problem is finding a decent feeder school for Cranbrook as i'm in the catchment in Hawkhurst but Angley school doesn't appear to be have a very good Ofsted and i'm not sure how well it will support brighter pupils and help them advance with Cranbrook in mind at 13 (he's 11 now). Any ideas? I'm home teaching at the moment but it's going to get trickier and my son is definitely missing out on peer companionship.

CowsGoMoo · 18/11/2008 12:25

Nice to read a bit about Cranbrook. This is a school that we are thinking of for our ds. At present he is at prep school in year 5 so we have a while yet, but its always worth investigating early! We are not in catchment (in Hastings!)but a few from ds prep school go to Cranbrook each year. Keep the info coming!
