Has anyone's Secondary school let them know what will happen with school buses in September? Not sure how this will work?

At the moment ours are running as normal but further discussions are taking place.

Also

School dedicated bus = no masks
Public transport = masks.

How the virus knows which bus its allowed on is a cause for concern.

We've been told ours, both catchment and non-catchment will have the students sat to a seating plan in their bubbles, masks and hand sanitizer.

Local bus companies have their school bus routes that they've been awarded, so far, up on VOSA.

SistemaAddict · 15/07/2020 00:25

Normal service plus masks. Avoid using them unless absolutely necessary. They are trying to get more buses but funding is rubbish so I doubt they will. The traffic here is horrendous as it is and with more cars being used by those who can drive their dc to school and potentially more buses on the road too then it will be horrendous for anyone trying to get to work. If you leave here after 7am it takes over an hour to travel 4 miles into the nearest large town. Not to mention the increased traffic on the estate where the school is as no one is allowed on the school road itself. Dds will be walking to school as only just over a mile but many come from several miles away and need the buses.

This is a real issue for many schools. Most contract buses will not be viable under current guidance. We share with 4 other schools. How does this work with staggered starts? It's also been recommended that children avoid public transport at rush hour! It just won't work.

They bring in kids to our secondary school from all over the city. First Bus run them I doubt they have enough vehicles to provide extra buses in order to stop the overcrowding issue

Just had the email to renew bus passes from our local authority who have actually asked us to give our children lifts to school if we can to avoid using public transport!
No idea how our bus company would cope, the buses are always crammed full with kids, and often miss stops if they are too full.
Our local authority has offered a partial bus pass later in the year if restrictions are lifted so we are going to try to attempt lift sharing and either occasional bus or train journeys as otherwise I could imagine the bus company just driving past my daughter and friends and being too full with restrictions to fit them on and I'm not paying over £350 for this.

We have a subsidised school bus service from our and the neighbouring housing estate. There are 6 buses a day, 3 from each estate. I've heard they are considering if they can make each bus for a single year group only, and changing the pickup points to also separate by year group. Means some kids might have up to a mile to walk to their allocated bus stop, which isn't the end of the world.

raspberryrippleicecream · 15/07/2020 17:59

Re staggered starts, DC's school is not doing them due to impossibility of coordinating it with Transport.

yeOldeTrout · 16/07/2020 20:50

supposed to sit in single year groups on the bus. They kind of do that already.

But that's council buses... DC bus is a charter/private service. No idea what that company will do. DS cycles 90% of the time, but nice to have bus option on bad rain days.

KoalasandRabbit · 18/07/2020 04:38

We've been told ours are as before. School bus = no masks, public bus = masks. Children to sit in year group bubbles. Parents encouraged to drive kids instead. Further discussions taking place.

poilymo · 19/07/2020 20:25

Our area is served by 5 separate buses with bus passes issued on address. From Sept the kids will have to wear masks and travel on year specific buses (except for 6th former who can catch any bus Hmm). Means some children will have to walk a mile to their allocated bus stop.
