Blazers for slim children

Had DD’s uniform list through today with a note asking us to order online ASAP.
Blazer only comes in width fittings.
I measured DD at 26” with the tape slack. But then looked at the age equivalent and it was something like 7-9 (can’t recall exactly, but young anyway)! Surely that will be tiny on her. I think the 28” was 10-11 which she might get away with, but even then will it look short on the arms etc. If I go for the 30”
Will she look like she is wearing a sack? I Want her to go off to school feeling comfortable and confident.

If you have slim blazer wearing children how do you work out the sizing?

DD has a tiny friend and the mum had to order a made to measure blazer from the uniform shop.

I would contact the uniform supplier, send measurements and ask what size they recommend.

I gave up on age bands long ago. DD started secondary with a 32’’ blazer, she was a young 11 year old, actually till 10 when we bought it. But she is very tall and was at that age in 13-14 in most clothes sizes in the shops.

When DD started Y7 she was tiny so I got her a slim fit blazer from M&S and got the school badge separately to sew on, is that an option?

They do grow quickly though at this stage, that blazer didn't last long but more importantly it made her feel more confident.

My DD is slim and I measured her as a 26 inch chest.
She tried on her brother's old 30 inch blazer and it was fine; just right on the arms and not too ridiculously baggy. I know the girls have a different fit to the boys, but I'm hoping fairly similar...
One of DS's friends had her blazer and skirt altered at a dressmakers as she was so tiny- that might be an option?
Good luck. I'm dreading the skirts as she's slim but tall and school are quite strict about skirt length!

I tried searching for a slim fit option but her blazer is maroon!

We have the same issue with skirts too. The uniform shop apparently do waist and length for skirts so I am hoping we can order something suitable.

Yes, I'm hoping that the skirts will be ok... good luck with yours!

My DD is very slim too (her PE shorts which she wore until y11 were something like age 9). I bought a normal blazer and it was fine. The skirts were sold by waist and length and had an adjustable elastic waist, so they were fine too and I got slim-fit blouses from M&S.

IHateCoronavirus · 08/07/2020 20:37

acocadochocolate do you mind me asking was she average height? And can you recall the chest size of the blazer. DD is 75th percentile for her age but as she is August born she looks about average in her yeargroup height wise. Many of her clothes are age 9 still but look short esp on the leg. It is either that or clothes are too baggy. I have the other problem Blush

She was a little above average height in y7. I remember buying the second smallest waist size for the skirt but with a long length.

I think she had a 30 or 32" blazer in y7.

acocadochocolate · 08/07/2020 21:52

My DD sounds similar to yours. A little above average for her age but born in July. She is 16 now and 5'7".

I remember buying the second smallest waist size for the skirt but with a long length.

I think she had a 30" blazer in y7 and a 32" in y10. She also went up a skirt size in y10.

I'm actually more worried about the PE shorts.
Until we left the school in Y5, DS was in the smallest pair of PE shorts that they did....
I think Y7 will be equally troublesome. We have an appointment with the school uniform shop next week. Will see what they come up with. He's not THAT small. I'm sure they have had smaller through the school.

Thankfully, trousers can come from M&S. His age8 extra long still fit lengthwise, and they seem to do slim fit shirts, which I hope wont drown him too much.

RedCatBlueCat good luck with your search!
My DB was the smallest in the year by far. He went for his grade 8 piano exam and the lady on reception nearly fell off her chair when she saw him. “Oh look at him! What a clever boy!” He was 14 Grin
