You just write a few paragraphs about yourself - what are you interested in? What have you enjoyed most about the things you have studied at school so far? How will the course you have selected help you to achieve your ambitions?

If you google "sample personal statement for btec courses" you will find a lot of examples to read through and adapt the general style to your personal circumstances.

Hi, Not sure if you have finished now, but I don't understand why you have such a long list of courses? If you want to be a hairdresser, you should be finding a 'hair & beauty course' to apply to. Then in your application you explain why you have chosen the course.

abccba · 22/06/2020 10:48

they where the ones i done for my choices i have all courses because i dropped out of computing which then moved me to another course that why i have an extra course but its a personal statement not an application form as i did get confused on that part so i am doin a personal staement now but ill be doin an application form soon anyways thx alot for your help

Oh, I understand you now, they were your 'options' for y10/11.

The personal statement just needs to get over a bit about you, and why you are interested in doing that course (and if you have any experience then say that too, eg helping out on a Saturday, or an aunt in the trade).

Get someone to check it for grammar & spelling.

Round where I am the personal statements for college are about checking the student actually has some interest in the course rather than being critical. e.g. If you say you want to be a nurse but apply for motor mechanics they'll pick up on it.)

Which reminds me, must get my y10 DD to think about one...

abccba · 22/06/2020 12:54

whats y10 DD?

Sorry, y10 DD means year 10 Daughter.

Keep plugging away, especially at Maths & English. Smile

This still seems confusing. Is this for after you have taken your GCSEs? You don't normally do 4 different courses at college. You do 1. If you want to be a hairdresser surely a hairdressing apprenticeship would be best.

TeenPlusTwenties · 22/06/2020 15:34

book The subjects listed in the OP are the 'GCSE' options.

The OP is preparing a personal statement for college application.
Our school also normally gets the y10s working on personal statements about now (mainly to focus the minds of those who have no clue what they want to do.)

A hairdressing apprenticeship is one way to go, but a hair / hair and beauty course at college should give the OP a good grounding and practical experience too. It will also enable retaking of maths or English if needed. A college course gives time for increased maturity too.

abccba · 22/06/2020 15:54

its confusing me to but ill copy over what the email said
Good afternoon Year 10,

You have been asked to write a personal statement for a college application but currently don't have access to the unifrog tool.

Here is a link from UCAS to help you in writing a college personal statement

www.ucas.com/further-education/post-16-qualifications/post-16-options/how-write-personal-statement-further-education

My advice would be to type this up on a word document and then upload this to your unifrog locker ( the screenshots below should help you)

Ah so I think this is a practice type exercise rather than an actual application. Does that sound right abccba ? Because if you are in Year 10 you should already being doing GCSEs and you won't be moving on to college for almost a year and a half. If you are not understanding what you have been asked to do I would contact your teacher. That's what teachers are for.

TeenPlusTwenties · 22/06/2020 16:42

I can't quite remember the guidance as to what to include, but something like:

I have always been more practical than academic. The options I have enjoyed most in the last year have been childcare and hospitality. They have given me an understanding as to what it will be like to do a BTEC and I find I am more able to do the regular assignments than more academic subjects that are purely exam based.

I enjoy styling both my own hair and that of friends and I am keen to learn more. I always take an interest in the techniques used when I go to a hairdressers and I feel I could have a good career as a hairdresser.

Outside of school I enjoy cheerleading, which I have been doing for over 10 years. I can work well in a team and we have to communicate clearly to avoid accidents.

Within school I have been a 'tour guide' showing prospective parents round. I have learned how to talk to adults confidently and to make sure I answer questions appropriately.

I have chosen a BTEC rather than an apprenticeship as I think I will learn better with focussed tuition than a full workplace environment where they may be too busy to teach me clearly enough.

TeenPlusTwenties · 22/06/2020 16:44

Where I am in Hants, the earliest deadline for local college applications is end November (though the more vocational ones often stay open way longer).

My guess too is this is a practice / first draft which can then be worked on next term before submission deadlines.

abccba · 23/06/2020 12:04

wanna know sommet i dont have a clue what anyone is on about but i decided im not gonna do it just yet coz i cba so i think its best just to leave it to me teachers to solve thx
