Whereas we’re surrounded by schools offering small group teaching equating to 10-18 hours for each child, over the remaining term

I’m only talking state here, ours is a bog std deprived area comp where a lot of kids aren’t doing any work, my child’s Jan mocks where all 7-9’ s she now averages 45min to an hours work a day as she only has to hand in 2/3 pieces of work each week

Tell me I’m not the only one

I agree. I’ve supporting Y10 son with online videos for 8/10 if his GCSEs. For the other I’m getting online tutors to pick up the slack

@portico Can't work out why you're on this thread. You've got DC's who seem to be happy to study for hours, spare money to spend on tutors even though your kids attend a super selective state grammar and time to monitor, decide and guide every educational move they make. It seems to me you have nothing to be concerned about as you've already said your methods are more rigorous than the schools. Most of us are trying to console ourselves by finding out that it's not just our own DC's that are being failed but that everyone else DCs are as well - you know to help us feel better about this sh!t show. You're not helping!

This is pretty poor from your school OP. I wonder why they have decided on this option.

I teach at an inner city comp with a deprived catchment. We are offering each 1/4 of year 10 a full day each week with 2 hours each of English, Maths and Science. They are in groups of 8-15 depending on ability/size of the room etc.

Totally understand why you are upset.

DS2 is at a grammar and getting nothing in school. He's year 10.
The online work is quite good though and they are getting feedback.
He cant go back because he's been too conscientious doing the online work 🤔 He needs to go back and socialise

@Mostpeculiar

I didn’t see what I was expecting from the BBC this morning after all but I did see the Daily Fail is aware of the one off appointments, the media doesn’t seem to be making a fuss like they did with primary wonder why?
Grrr spoke too soon

No offence met, honest. I have to watch over Y10 son like a hawk. Y12 does not want me involved. I have just accepted no teaching provision is available, and tried to work a best route forward. YouTube is brilliant for anything, and half the fun is the trial and error approach for finding the right videos. Videos are better for learning than treading, ie watch videos first, read the relevant chapter and then practise questions. Try Seneca, as it seems free and it covers most syllabuses. BBC bitesize is great. So is Student Room. For any subject your child starts browse the web for past questions and mark schemes. Re Tutors if you can afford it why not, it’s an investment - both tutors know I will engage them for two months each. I chose them because the relevant teachers would not mark any questions for my son. What else could I do.
