There doesn't seems to be many options for Y9 upwards for boys and Y7 upwards for girls. Or for mixed.
I've looked on the ISC website, but wondering about any local info about what people do.
My son is currently Y6 and daughter Y4.

Pangbourne College (bus from Newbury and entry at year 7 or year 9) or St Gabriel’s for Girls

AnnaMagnani · 11/06/2020 21:28

They bus/train it Reading or Abingdon - Abbey, Leighton Park, St Joseph's, Reading or Abingdon, St Helens + St Katherines.

Pangbourne or St Gabriels are the other options.

Kids went to all of these from my year at prep school. Thankfully the prep school no longer exists, it was ghastly.

Abingdon - SHSK, Abingdon and our lady all on the same bus route from Newbury two double decker bus loads a day.
Pangbourne bus from Newbury.
St Gabriel's for girls in the town.
Train to Reading to all the schools there lots of girls go on the train to the Abbey
Bradfield you can go day, but flexi boarding works best.
Options really to suit most types of child.
The only option not covered is the Super Sporty (team sports), but they get sports scholarships to Millfield Newbury Rugby club has a great record to the national sides via Millfield and Bath Rugby. The current year 13 at St Gabriel's has two national champions in non- teams sports and year 11 has a world champion in a non-traditional sport.

Don't for forget schools actively recruit junior champions in sport and give them 100 per cent bursaries to attract them to the school. They have not coached them to their current glory in all probability.

Downe House also has day girls. Abbey School is also girls. Foir girls there are other options at Ascot. Marlborough is not far away either or Wellington College. Plus Sherfield which is just in Hampshire.

Thank you all.

Think girls options are good.

My son is 1st team at prep (in Kent) for rugby, cricket, football, but he is not a champ, not sure he would get a sports scholarship. But a competive sporty school is important.

I wouldn't want him to board or be a day boy at a predominantly boarding school .

Abingdon would suit him. There is a school bus, as other posters pointed out. Abingdon has very few boarders, predominantly day school.

My0My · 13/06/2020 17:22

What would he like though? Often by 11-13 they have some ideas of their own? He might relish boarding because it often offers more time playing sport.

IMO avoid Gabriel’s in Newbury. Only handful of boys in each year, which for a sporty kid, isn’t great
