Secondary schools when you have a disability?

Ds is nearly 10 and already the SENCo has asked us what secondary school we have thought about for DS. I said that we were thinking about a MS secondary school about 10 minutes away, and she mentioned a MS school in St Albans that is very good for children with disabilities but they will also stretch his mind too, as he is very bright. Am confused now as to what school to send him to, as I know all his friends will be going to the 1st MS secondary school that we thought of.

We live near st albans sparklygothkat and will be doing secondary school applications this year and we are certainly not posh, far from it!!

lol, do you know how it works as we don't live in st albans? Can we apply for a place at a school in another area if we feel that its the best place for DS? He isn't statemented though.

As far as I know (and am fairly new to the area so no expert), if you are in Herts you can apply for any school within Herts. If outside Herts, this year you have to apply to your county/LEA and apply for the school outside the borough through them.

Like I say though, I really am no expert so don't take my word for it. Virtually all the schools in and around St Albans seem to be good thoug.

we are in hertsk, so no worries there. I thought that you could only apply for a place within a certain radius. And everyone here goes to the 1 secondary school nearby. At least I know I can apply and not worry, must find out what school she was actually on about, and see if I can arrange a visit. Seems silly having to worry about secondary school when DS is only in year 5, but heyho the joys of disabilities eh!!
