TES School Account/resources

Hi!

I am going to be a qualified NQT next month and I start my first post in September. I am wanting to buy lots of resource bundles from TES but they cost money unless you have a school account (I think it's called that?) is there any chance I could pretty please borrow someone else's or I could show you the bundles I'd like and you download and email them to me?

I'd happily pay you a small amount

xx

Anyone can join TES, there are free bundles too.

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 01/06/2020 17:57

You can register for free at TES. Search for the resource category you want (i.e. Creative Writing year 7, Literacy games year 2 or whatever), then filter the results by "lowest price". All the free resources will come up first.

As far as I know there is no such thing as a "school account".

MrsR87 · 01/06/2020 18:58

You can sign up to TES for free. Some resources are free and others you do need to pay for. However, I have only ever paid for two resources and neither of them were worth the money! To be honest, I would wait until you start at the school before spending money on such things. I’m a HOD and we have a central scheme of work that I create ‘base my resources for a couple of years ago. Staff then take these and adapt them as necessary and share when they’ve done something worth sharing. It’s a real team approach and it means we never fork out of our own pockets for resources. Additionally, we have a department subscription to teach it that means we can access all resources and we would use that over TES any day!
I really would wait and see what your department do and what resources they already have before paying for things!

stormslushy · 02/06/2020 16:21

Hi everyone. Yes, I have TES. I know a lot about TES, my question was regarding the resources that cost. As I said, I am after some bundles that cost £10 each. If you have a school account I believe these are free x

BlessYourCottonSocks · 02/06/2020 16:28

I don't think you do know a lot about TES!

Schools don't have accounts to pay for resources from there. They are not free if someone is selling them and as a pp has pointed out, most are not worth the money.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 02/06/2020 16:30

Added to which - no teaching professional would give a random stranger on the internet, or indeed anyone else, their school account information for any site they were registered with! What a bizarre idea.

Nor will they download things for you and then email. It concerns me what kind of training you've had.

BeltaneBride · 02/06/2020 16:49

Completely agree that the paid for resources are not up to much. There are plenty free. Never heard of a 'school account'

crazycatgal · 02/06/2020 16:51

Are you sure that you need all of these £10 resource bundles from TES? I started as a primary NQT in September and i've used a couple of free resources from TES but that's it.

As far as i'm aware schools don't have an account that gives you the paid resources for free.

stormslushy · 02/06/2020 17:16

@BlessYourCottonSocks

Is there any need to patronise a newly qualified teacher who is asking a simple question? You're questioning my training? I really think you should think before you speak. My colleague at work had a Schools account from her old school. They DO exist.

Think before you speak and before you belittle someone and attempt to make them doubt their ability/training over a simple question.

I'm a secondary school English teacher with a minimum of 7 set texts to cover in my NQT year, I'd like to access the bundles as they are a really great starting point.

It's always so disappointing to see how quickly tear other people down on Mumsnet.

stormslushy · 02/06/2020 17:22

Also, resources are commonly and frequently shared online across teachers. Check Twitter for example, alongside many other sites and forums.

It is not a 'concern' for an anxious NQT to be asking for resource help.

I'm secondary English too. Before you pay out for stuff, ask your new Hod for access to their shared folder.

If no luck there try the teachit website (all pdfs are free). There's also loads temporarily free at the moment due to lockdown on the English & Media centre, the British Library, the RSC, the National Literacy Centre, most professional theatres.

Lots of teachers share loads of stuff for free on Twitter, just search by the text or topic titles. Also all the exam boards produce free schemes of work and resources.

Most of the paid TES stuff really isn't worth the money!

TheletterZ · 02/06/2020 17:51

Rather than scouring tes (which has some mixed quality) I would ask on twitter or the staff room here giving which texts you are studying.

I have never heard of a school account, so they can’t be too common, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. But then I would suspect the school got charged as it is all individual sellers.

It is very tempting as an NQT to feel you have to be totally prepared in advance (even more this year with less time in school) but you don’t have to have everything done before school starts.

Have you asked your school if you can have access to department resources? You might not have to spend anything.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 02/06/2020 19:25

@stormslushy - do you not see the concern in asking strangers you don't know to give you their school account log in for you to purchase resources with?

It would be fraudulent for a start. I was sarcastic because when pp tried to help you announced Yes I have TES. I know a lot about TES despite people trying to explain you shouldn't purchase from there.

clary · 02/06/2020 21:51

OP I would also recommend Teachit, lots of great free stuff and if your new dept has an account then everything is free, which means you can edit things (handy).

I've never bought anything on TES. I agree with you, teachers share things which is great. Also yy exam board have resources online.

Asking random strangers to share their school code (if such a thing even exists, I've never heard of it) would be fraud, surely you can see that?

Maybe you should ask the colleague you mention to lend you their code?

clary · 02/06/2020 21:53

To clarify - I am being sarcastic about asking the colleague. I should hope they wouldn't be willing to share any code their school was paying for.

FrippEnos · 02/06/2020 22:00

Use the free stuff and adapt it.

The vast majority of the pay for stuff isn't worth it.

There are also lots of websites out there with free resources, you would be better off finding out what your department uses and and using/adapting them.

Rosieposy4 · 02/06/2020 22:00

I wouldn’t buy anything this from TES, mixed, dubious quality.
What paid for resources does your department have? I am not English but we use kerboodle to support our students and our own sow which is excellent and has an online textbook, and lots of accompanying worksheets.
Your school may well have similar.
But I also agree with others, no one should be sharing a school code online to a stranger, and if you are slightly less prickly in real life you will find colleagues happier to help.

YurtleTheTurtle · 02/06/2020 22:37

Dear me lovely, you might want to have a think about your attitude before school goes back. You're meant to teach year 10, not act like them!

YurtleTheTurtle · 02/06/2020 22:39

And you're best bet for lesson plans would be to join the specific exam board teacher's Facebook group. You're HOD is probably already on it

YurtleTheTurtle · 02/06/2020 22:39

Your!

Davincitoad · 08/06/2020 18:14

Is it not a school license you are looking at?

Wait until they have sale on :)
