I have ordered DD a 'Backcare' rucksack. Does anyone's DD/DS have one? Does it make a difference?

She's been complaining that her back hurts, and her bag is so heavy, even though she only carries what she needs per day. These backcare bags look good as they are ergonomically designed to protect the spine and balance weight evenly.

As a scoliosis sufferer I would certainly advise you to look into any way of helping her. Can she get a locker at school? Then she could leave some of her stuff there & carry what she needs for the morning / afternoon.

She does have a locker, but doesn't leave books/equipment in it, she carries them from lesson to lesson. I think she's a bit worried about not being able to get to her locker in time for the next lesson etc. Perhaps she'll sort this out better once she's been there longer and figures things out etc.

LIZS - am hopeless at links but will let you what site I've ordered it from.

chocolateshoes - my friend's DD aged 11 was recently diagnosed with scoliosis. Apparently she has it quite bad for her age. She's been fitted with a back brace, and faces at least two major operations when she's a bit older. That's not good, is it? What's the long term prognosis, do you think?
