Anyone got a y11 at Tiffin Boys?

Just wondering what lockdown work the Tiffin Boys y11 are doing? My DD has an offer for their sixth form so if they're starting to cover the A Level material already then I'm worried that it might be harder for those transferring in September.

Are they having online lessons?

Surely the school has been in touch with your DD with the plan for all new Sixth-Formers in September! My DD has had similar from all the schools/colleges at which she was successful and they are detailed and comprehensive (in fact, the quality of the materials has really helped her narrow down her decision over which to choose).

I'd be very unhappy if the school with which I was trusting my DD's 6th Form education had been so poor about providing appropriate material to aid the transition, particularly as it seems you haven't had great communication about what to expect from them either and the majority of schools have already sent comprehensive materials to their 'new' students.

That's overly harsh Schmedz. We got the conditional offer in March, and it said they'd be writing to us about transition arrangements during the Summer term. I read that as meaning after the exams, and wouldn't necessarily expect the timing to brought forward now the exams have been cancelled (though it would be nice if it was).

gribbled then what was your OP about if you weren't expecting anything until after when the exams would have finished?

The fact that you seem concerned their current students will have an advantage over any new joiners because you don't know what current provision is being made, is understandable. Most other 6th Form providers are giving this information/work to all their prospective 6th Form families/students (whether currently at their school or not). It is simply not in the school's interest to give current students any advantage over new joiners, especially one with such high academic expectations.
Only basing it on my own experience from DDs prospective 6th Form providers and also what her current school is doing. Having received all of that information by the end of the Easter break/start of Summer Term I am surprised that your DD's school hasn't been as efficient.

Schmedz I have zero interest in what your daughter's school is doing. My question was about Tiffin only. I asked about what their y11 boys are doing right now. As far as I know they might be finishing off their GCSE courses, doing random projects to keep them busy or have no work set at all. But if a Tiffin parent was to reply to my question and tell me that their y11 son is currently doing lots of A Level work then I might contact the school to see if it can be made available to new joiners too.

gribbled sounds like you need to contact the school if you don't trust that they are advising you adequately on how your child can prepare for 6th form or you doubt they are giving you enough information.

It is understandable to be concerned about starting at a new 6th Form, particularly when some of the other students will have already been at the school, but as that won't be the majority, do you not think that if it is relevant what their own Y11s are doing the school wouldn't have thought to keep their new families informed so all new joiners come in on an even playing field? Do you really think that parents of current Y11s will have more reliable information about the content of any current schooling delivered by the school than the school itself?

I'm surprised you don't seem to think it's relevant that they seem inadequate in providing the relevant information compared to other 6th Forms and schools in the area but to each his/her own...This is the only reason I bothered sharing information about anything to do with DD's prospective schools/colleges and you're under no obligation to be interested Grin

Good luck to your DD in September. She is obviously predicted great GCSE results (and with no exams now, should be feeling confident that they will be now guaranteed) and must feel lucky to be offered a place at such a hard-to-get-into school. The co-curricular music there is very good if she's into that sort of thing.
