Schools Setting GCSE and A Level Assessments in Lockdown

My child's school is setting exams at home for A level and GCSEs students in lockdown. This seems contrary to Ofqual advice. Any thoughts? The assessments count for 25% of the students' teacher assessed grades.

Really hard on students who had been told to "down tools".

Are any other schools doing the same?

Report, report, report to Ofqual, to the Local Education Authority and Ofsted. It directly contradicts government guidance. It suggests that the school doesn't have enough data to base it's decisions on which is terrible. I may even go as far as letting the local newspapers know. Disgraceful…

Agree with @HappySonHappyMum, that is utterly unfair on all students but most particularly those whose home circumstances in any way disadvantage them. Plus how on earth will they verify that such exams are definitely all a student’s own work? Mad.

Our school has taken what I feel to be a completely sensible approach (I have a y11). They have confirmed that no further assessment will be requested to support GCSE recommendations but have created A level online prep courses (and an alternative for those who will not go on to take A levels) which will commence after Easter. Whilst students have the option to decline to do these, school have specified that they expect any student hoping to be accepted into the sixth form to participate and complete the online course for each A level subject they wish to take.

So the emphasis is on keeping them busy, brains ticking over and helping them prep for sixth form - but absolutely no home assessments which could impact their GCSE grade.

That’s so wrong and it should not be happening. For a start now can they be sure the student completed the assessment themselves - and not an older brother / parent etc? I’d report them too

How silly. Some kids might get parents to do the assessments. Others might have parents with Corona or be ill themselves. Dd did mocks the week before schools closed in exam conditions. Doing them at home is unfaur and about as far from exam conditions as possible

Kids could just google answers surely in some subjects
