Just after some real life reviews of my gcse science if anyone's DC have used it?

DS1 is in Year 10 and considering the situation at the moment I thought it might be useful...apparently guarantees Grade 8's (although Im taking that with a pinch of salt!)

I was going to try the free bit for him first before I spend £50 on it but not sure if thats a true representation if it will be useful or not as that bit is aimed at Year 9?

All of it will be useful, even if content covered in y9. It consists of a video and quiz for each topic subsection. And also contains a notes document and exam question for the section. It's definitely worth using the free parts to see if it suits your son.

The grade 8 guarantee is true but requires that they have watched all videos and got green on all of the quizzes. If the student doesn't get an 8 and has done this, they refund the subscription cost.

Seneca learning is a similar resource. And Twinkl currently has a free trial running which has lots of excellent resources.

Thank you thats really helpful. He already has Seneca (school set it up for them last year). Ive actually already got a Twinkl membership but not looked on there for GCSE stuff (Im a TA in Year 2!).

I just thought it might be useful for the stuff they are missing. School are being brilliant and actually setting loads of work but it's not quite the same as being taught. He is doing loads of revision as well but think perhaps he needs something concrete to work through. I will get him to sign up for the Free bit and see what he thinks.

Check what your school use, the school In work in and DD's both use Seneca. The teachers set extra work on these and also recommend which study guides/workbooks to buy. PP students get them provided. Mainly as it can depend on which GCSE exam board they follow and while the core of the courses are very similar espicaly those at the higher end of the range like your DS there are some differences which make some resources better for some sources then others. Ie is it Edexcel, OCR or AQA.

I would email the school and ask what they use.

Oh and of course he'll be missing doing the required practicals. While he can't actually do them at home these guys do YouTube videos of them www.youtube.com/channel/UC-TM-z1-tmX1iK_H4SxVhww
Which will be useful.

We got it at Xmas (DS year 11). Wish I'd got it earlier. It was £49 until post-GCSEs - higher level AQA separates. My DS found it really useful. It goes through every topic in detail, lots of questions and also the practicals. He said he would definitely have wanted it year 10 as well. His predicted grades were 9,8,8 but he said it just filled any gaps and went through things in a different way to school and revision books . I would definitely recommend.

Thank you. He has already got Seneca and all the study guides (we had to order them from the school). This just seemed more logical as he can actually work through it. I’m not one to just throw money at stuff but he so desperately wants to do well that I think he should try everything he can.

He has 2 very different career aspirations both linked to science in some way so it’s important that he gets good grades in Biology and physics at least...Chemistry is possibly not as important.
