Social Distancing and Music Lessons

DS (13) plays piano and drums. His piano teacher is aiming to set up a lesson by Zoom. His drum teacher seems a bit less sure that would work but is looking into it. He's also said DS could continue the lessons in his studio an maintain a 2m distance (DS takes his own drum sticks).

Just wondering what others are doing?

Online via Zoom only. Attending a music studio isn't an essential journey to perform an essential role.

Other drum teachers are offering online lessons - if your drum teacher doesn't want to/can't then fair enough but it's not even slightly acceptable to consider taking a child to a music lesson right now.

I'm using zoom to teach my students (woodwind and piano) and it seems to be working well so far. The drum teacher I work with is also doing online lessons so I would imagine it's possible as long as you have appropriate setup at home.

Online via zoom. Worked really well.

Absolutely no face-to-face lessons should be continuing now!

I’m an instrumental teacher, as is DH, and my son has instrumental lessons.
Everyone is using either Skype, Zoom or even FB messenger to teach - it’s a perfectly good way of giving lessons.

My niece is giving all her singing and guitar lessons online. Nothing face-to-face should be occurring now. Even DS's fencing coach is teaching online now, and if that's possible, drum lessons most certainly are.

I am only teaching online now... a couple of people have said they aren’t sure about it so they are going to wait until life is back to normal before their child starts back.
Really shocked the drum teacher is even suggesting this after Monday

DD did piano via FaceTime last night - worked really well. Her teacher is not techy in the slightest but is very proud of himself for getting all his students onto online lessons.

Trying Zoom for singing on Friday.

Please try to stop thinking of ways you can visit people and instead (as most people are) think of ways you can avoid any actual contact. We do not know exactly how long this remains on surfaces, we do know it is spreading.
Family working in the health service are literally putting their lives on the line for us. More younger people and those without underlying health conditions are getting very sick . This affects all of us.
The least we can all do is stay in unless its ABSOLUTELY essential to go out. No ifs no buts , its very clear.

The drum teacher is an idiot and would be breaking the law.

chickedeee · 25/03/2020 16:47

Online via google duo 😊

Popuppippa · 26/03/2020 12:10

Piano lessons using Skype. It has worked quite well so far. It's not quite the same as a 1 to 1 lesson in person but it's a really good alternative given the circumstances.

Travelban · 26/03/2020 13:33

Piano, violin, drama, guitar and singing lessons all on zoom here!!!! I would not consider face to face right now... Its an unnecessary risk.

PenguinsOnParade · 26/03/2020 13:35

Drums online via Zoom. DD has an electric pad and a practice pad so can use either for her lessons.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 26/03/2020 13:35

Piano lessons by Skype. Seems to be going OK.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 26/03/2020 17:58

DD also doing via zoom - honestly, I do find that the best way to get your head round this is to assume that either you or the person you are meeting is an symptomatic carrier. Would you still do the meet up? If not, don't go.
