BTEC course - how can the entire course be covered?

DS is doing a BTEC. With college closed they'll miss a huge part of the course.

He's asking me if he'll have to do a third year.

I don't have an answer. I don't suppose anyone else does at the moment either. Confused

It’s possible it could be covered via distance learning?

His school should be setting him work.

I'm going to talk 6th form BTECs here.
The problem with BTECs is the inherently practical nature of them. If you are doing a BTEC in motor mechanics then yes there is theory and written assignments, but they are very much coupled with practicals. You don't learn all the theory separate from the practical element, in order to learn the theory properly you do the practical sessions.
DD is planning to do animal care at college. She would have one practical day to 2 or 3 theory days. In order to really understand she'll need to hold the animals, feel their rib cages, look in their mouths, or whatever.
So it isn't so much about setting work, its about achieving the learning aim. A bit like Drama GCSE, there's only so much distance learning that will be possible.

That said, it is 'only' a term (or less), hopefully. There should be ways round it. All will become clear in time I hope.

I teach media BTEC so half/half practical and theory. All my groups are working on practical briefs I can’t expect them to do from home so we are going to pull forward some theory work from next year and hope to use the time next year to finish the practical briefs from this year. Messy and less than satisfactory but the only way I can set them meaningful work while they’re off. Shouldn’t be any need to add longer to the course if we’re careful.

I've been emailed this; "From Monday 23 March, we plan to move all further education tuition to online, remote learning until further notice. This means your child does not need to come into college. Their tutor or personal learning advisor will contact them with specific details of what they need to do at the appropriate time. We are aiming, where possible, to replace the learning that would have taken place at college with an online delivery using Google Hangouts and Google Classroom"

DS says he knows what he needs to do. I won't know if he's working or not as I don't understand anything about the BTEC he's doing (engineering). I am just going to have to trust him to get his head down.

Waiting for news on those who are due to finish btecs this year. DD is doing combined a levels and btec. The statement yesterday clarifies what will happen with the a level results but not the btec results. Don't know whether she should be trying to complete the work or not but since they still have practical work to complete (science) it's not straightforward without results from the practicals.
