When does the enthusiasm wear off!

Ds started secondary school on Tuesday, came home really hyper. He loved it and had even managed to earn a merit.
This morning gave me a huge kiss said "love you mum" and rushed out the door to get the train.

Tonight came home, got out his homework and tried to finish it all tonight even though he has a week to do most of it.At primary school he had to be nagged to do it all the time.

Then had a mid evening panic that he would never have time to cuddle his guinea pig every again
He did well at primary school and thrived during his Sats, but he would much rather have been at home than at school. He has always been a very independent boy since he was a baby, so the environment of secondary school would probably suit him more than primary school.
I just can't see it lasting or am I wrong to be pessimistic.

cherish it whilst it lasts !
It's lovely that he is finding seconadry school so great & has coped with all the upheaval & new routines. Well done to your DS
i work in Secondary & am amazed at the ranges of ability & outlook of the new Yr7s - some are so independant, whilst others still ask if they should start a new page in their excercise book & just havn't got the concept of sitting & listening to instructions !

DS1's enthusiasm lasted throughout yr 7, though it did settle iykwim.

He waned somewhat last year, but he's fresh and ready again as he starts yr 9.

My dd is still as high as a kite! She came home yesterday bubbling about the reenactment of the Kennedy assasination they had done in History (!) To quote "Mummy - even RE's interesting at my new school!" Long may it last!

My new yeat sevens are also very enthusiastic.

Expereince tells me 2/3 of the way through summer term it starts to wane.

LOL Seeker hope your DD continues to enjoy it.

Ds has discovered something he is not enthusiastic about. Games
It was his birthday yesterday and had to do a cross country run. He begged me to write a note to get him off it. He is not good at running and came 3rd from last. Thankfully next week he starts swimming which he is quite good at, so it will boost his confidence.
Met his form teacher last night at new parents evening who is very pleased with him, says he is smart, organised (we both giggled at that as he has inherited my disorganization)and although quiet interacts well with the other children.

A bit OT but his Form tutor seems so young and have just discovered my swim teacher who is the same age as me, had him for swimming lessons when he was 10 Made me feel very old
