National allocation day 2020 - what time do they send the email?

NAD is 2 March, does that mean they send the email at midnight just as it turns 2 March? Is it even sent at midnight? Anyone know?

Different parts of the country are different. London was 5pm last year but some parts of the country were midnight.

For my first child it was midnight, my second three years later it was about 8am and who knows this time?!

5 years ago now but we got the email at 9.15, just after DD had gone to school.

Oxfordshire here and we got an email today to say the offer email would be sent out between 3am and 2pm on allocations day.

London is from 5 pm this year too. I think you can login at 5pm and find out but you may not get the email until later.

London is after 5.00 on the app and website, but the actual email comes through much later- ours arrived after lunch on the day after allocations day.

It depends on your borough.

As PP said, for the pan-London area (all London boroughs plus Surrey) allocations go live at 5pm (ish) on the website, and the emails are sent out through the evening, starting at 5pm.

It's done that way deliberately, so that a) it's during otherwise quiet hours (there's a huge volume to get through) and b) so that those disappointed with their allocations have a few hours enforced cooling off time before they hit the phones.

No point staying up till midnight though. It's not as if you can do anything about it at that time. I shall be aiming to cultivate a zen-like calm (will have reserves of gin available if that fails)

It depends on the area, some also send them out in blocks over the while day. Last year tne email came through at 12.30 am but some people in the same area got theirs in tne afternoon.

Not had the email but by 12:20am, the info was available in our online account. Got our first choice. Relief all round. Good luck everyone!

Midnight each time, you don't need to wait for the email,though, you can log in and view the offer

Emails after 4pm, login after 5pm in my area.

We only applied for 1 school which is our closest so cannot see any reason why ds wont be allocated it. Good luck to everyone else though, in hope you all get your first choices

good luck too @AHippoNamedBooBooButt - unfortunately applying to only your closest school is no guarantee if that school is oversubscribed and you aren't on the doorstep. but fingers crossed all will be ok.

Not knowing your particular school's admissions policy or how far up the criteria your DS is ranked according to it, but in general terms, I can think of some scenarios where a school being the closest to a home address would not be a guarantee of a place, I'm afraid. Naming only one school is usually regarded as a risky strategy, so I do hope that you had advice from a suitable source before adopting it.

We're in a grammar town and we've selected a comprehensive which isn't outstanding but is good and we really thought it suited ds. Fwiw, if we had put down a second choice it wouldve been the school I work in (our second closest comp) so I'm aware of how the admissions work.
Schools round here are all oversubscribed but that's because of all the house building without the infrastructure. The kids have to go somewhere so the schools have to take them whether they have space or not

We already know the results here (Leicestershire). We didn't get the email but friends started asking what school our son got offered, so I logged online and the result was there.

It depends - we’re in Kent and some people received an email in the morning. We were told it would be 4pm, I received my email at 6.30pm.

London is available online at exactly 5pm (never earlier). The email can take hours to arrive, even the next day so I wouldn't wait for the email.
