What are the rules/law regarding home schooling at 16yr old after secondary school? My daughter doesn't want to go to college or uni but I could provide schooling at home and privately outside to help with her chosen profession. Would I need permission to do this and is it possible?

I have no direct knowledge.

However I think I read somewhere that if you start to 'homeschool' after 16 then you don't get child benefit. But I could be completely wrong.

I don't think otherwise anyone will care, kids drop out of college all the time.

Would it be A levels or something else? (It seems an unusual time to start home schooling.) Have you considered apprenticeships?

educationalfreedom.org.uk/child-benefit/

^Therefore home education must have started before the child’s 16th birthday to retain entitlement to Child Benefit past the provisional exclusion date.
Where home education starts after the child’s 16th birthday there is no entitlement to Child Benefit.^

NB I can't vouch for the correctness of my source. Smile

As far as I am aware you don't need any permission. I believe it was to stop children being NEETs Not in Education, Employment or Training and then turning 18 and wanting benefits.

So no, you don't need to tell anyone. Just make sure she is committed to doing the work.
