Hello, we're abroad and with no prep school headmaster to help us we're doing a bit of a DIY job on this, and its looming next week so we're about to get on a plane home for the interview and I am suddenly feeling a bit panicky! Does anyone have any pointers for us on what they've experienced? I've had a look through the threads and tried to encourage DS to have a think about himself and various topics. I think the main thing is to be himself, don't be scared to pause before you answer, but any tips appreciated! Thank you.

Sounds facile, but remember to smile and make a bit of eye contact.

Thank you Michaelah. Not facile, good advice for an 11 year old.

I'm a bit concerned about the current affairs bit. He's grown up on the other side of the world so grasp of UK politics is a bit thin...to say the least. Also how he can cunningly direct the conversation to things he really cares about and gets excited about if they're not touched on. He's not very sophisticated...!

I would encourage him to be completely honest if the current affairs is something he doesn't know about. Perhaps he can suggest something he does know about, eg "As I'm not in the UK I've not really been following the Brexit debate, but in we've been hearing a lot about ... "
Maybe make sure he has something to say about climate change, as that's a worldwide issue, and he may be able to tell his interviewers about effects and perceptions in your part of the world.
