Fun ways to improve vocabulary

wifidatateens · 19/01/2020 21:38

One of my kids had hearing loss in his formative years and still finds it much harder to retrieve words than other kids, possibly some auditory processing type problem but in all other areas he is exceeding.

He finds this frustrating. He is very cooperative and keen to improve and whilst he does read he would prefer to use fun games too. We have a few board games and he has played free rice online.

Ideally he would prefer some more interactive online games if any one has any suggestions or fun online picture type dictionary game.

Thank you

Have you got an etymological dictionary? Knowing the origin or root of words can help in guessing the meaning of newly-encountered words.
I used to enjoy perusing the dictionary, chasing down rabbit-holes. Sad, I know.Grin

Another vote for Mrs Wordsmith. We have their word a day flip chart and really learning a new word every morning - my dcs take it in turns to read it / ask questions. We all love the illustration and the continue the story bit...
