Documentaries about Secondary Schools

I've recently watched two excellent documentaries on youtube -

The Big School Lottery - following a few kids sitting the 11+ (or not) for the grammars in Birmingham; and

Too Poor for School - about a handful of select boys from poor families trying to get a 100% scholarship to Harrow.

Both fascinating documentaries, although the first one (about Birmingham) had mostly lovely kids and parents whereas some of the parents in the Harrow documentary were a bit off-putting and one of the kids SCARY smart. My daughter is the same age and whereas he shows off he Shakespeare collection, my daughter could only proudly present her slime-making and selfie-making skills Hmm

Anyway... if anyone has seen the above documentaries or can recommend any others please share

I liked the BBC series "Grammar schools: who will get in". Although they start on the grammar test (Kent I think), they hang around and do various follow-ups with the grammar and local comp. I felt it covered the issues really well.

@FanDabbyFloozy Ohh I was trying to find it online, but it doesn't appear to be on YouTube or BBC catch-up anymore Sad

The Growing up Gifted documentaries follow a group of kids over 3 years and the final update isn't due until Feb but it's still worth watching. My favourite is this lovely girl from Birmingham who wants to get into a grammar for 6th form and she has the most amazing mother.

I've found the 'Educating Essex' etc series pretty interesting.
I think they really show what some schools and pupils are battling with on a day to day basis.

There was a BBC programme called "School" earlier this year which focused on the schools within an academy trust in South Gloucestershire. I found this illuminating both in terms of challenges schools face and the amount that school staff do to support their students.

I also enjoyed School and Educating Essex.

The issues are far more complex that many think. I actually found them uplifting and sad at the same time!!

I watched The Big School Lottery on youtube. It was good. It seems to be so widespread for people to not understand the application system. People thinking it'll help them to get into a good school if they put the same school down for 1st, 2nd and 3rd preference, or only put grammar schools or schools that are miles away. I was surprised that people i knew in real life who were really invested in their child's education. Tutoring, applying to grammars/faith schools miles away didn't understand the equal preference system.
It was made in 2010 I think. Are there still schools with resident police officers, or would funding not stretch to that now?
