Tutors for eleven plus entry to Habs, MTS

Hi everyone, my son is in year 3 at our local primary independent school. I am keen for him to attempt eleven plus for Habs, MTS, etc. We live in Milton Keynes and will be moving if he gets admitted in any of these schools. My challenge is that although we have enough tutors for eleven plus grammar school prep, I am struggling to find tutors for eleven plus for independent schools locally. If anyone can recommend tutors / coaching lessons/ resources that I could use for the preparation then please do share. Are there tutors that can teach remotely ? I can even consider travelling for the lessons if they are really good. Any advice on this matter is much appreciated as I really do not know where to start at the moment! Thanks 😊

I mean all this kindly..
Your child is too young for any tutoring and there is a risk of burn-out if you start preparation 3 years ahead of the exams (Jan of year 6).
I would also look closely at your independent school. If it's a prep, do they prepare for secondary transfer and if not, why not and what are you paying for? If they do and are successful, then look carefully at what a tutor can add on top of that. It should be possible to leave it to a prep school until (say) Sept of year 6.
If you are going to tutor from year 3/4, do think carefully about this is the right target school for your son. Will he keep up if he gets in? You don't want him to be the last child admitted after 3 years extensive tutoring on top of a private school.

Sounds totally bonkers to tutor from Y3. If he’s bright, maybe he will need help from Y5.

Thanks @FanDabbyFloozy for the pointers. I understand your advice about the burnout and do agree with it. What I am trying to do at this point is only to plan and understand what are the options for preparation considering our location as opposed starting his coaching already. I am trying to do my homework as to who to go to for tuitions when it’s time.
The school he goes to is a preparatory school and is academically inclined. It is in fact one of the best rated independent schools in Milton Keynes.
At this point there are two main questions that I am thinking

  1. What are my options for tuitions?
  2. Should we tutor from year 4 or year 5? If you have any advice then please do share. I am happy to listen with an open mind 😊

The one piece of advice I would give you now that you can do without a tutor is to work on improving his vocabulary as much as you can. It is never too early to do that. So much of the comprehension part of the tests relies on excellent vocabulary. It is often too late to make much of a difference if you leave it until year 5 to start working on it.

To answer your other question, yes it is possible to have remote tutoring. I have a number of online students and it can work well. Technology has moved on and there are online "classrooms" and students email their homework back to me.

Look at the elevenplusexams website and in particular the talk forum for your area.
