Can anyone recommend a suitably interesting Economics book to introduce the subject to a 15yo thinking of doing it for A level?

I don't know a book as it's a long time ago but the Economist has economics articles as do newspapers such as FT, Guardian, Times, Telegraph - most neutral is FT but also the driest. Look for articles on inflation, unemployment, trade, growth, business confidence etc. BBC also has lots of economics articles, some better than others but any would give an overview.

Websites: Bank of England, IMF, OECD, World Bank are all good for macro-economics. ONS is good for UK stats.

I'd suggest you buy a CGP A level economics revision guide. They're less than a tenner and cover all the topics in brief summaries, etc. Looking at national newspapers is fine, but it's not really representative of the A level subject - I'd say that's more for extra reading once they're doing the course.

Try freakonomics - microeconomics written by a journalist.

Tim Harford is well worth reading. The undercover economist or 50 things that changed the world.

Depression economics by Paul Krugman is a great read.

There is a series of Very Short Introductions covering all sorts of academic subjects:

Tim Harford writes easy to understand popular economics books. Maybe try: timharford.com/etc/undercovereconomist/
