SW London girls independent/grammars thread 2020

Last year, there were two amazing threads which were super helpful about exactly this, so I wanted to start a thread for girls due to start September 2020. If anyone from last year wants to contribute please do!

We have narrowed our choices down to 5, sadly not in the right postcode for Tiffin, and decided not to do the Sutton grammars.

So, she will be doing PHS, WHS, LEH, SHS and Woldingham. Also registered for Emanuel but we may pull that one.

Thanks everyone the info is helpful.

autumnnightsaredrawingin good luck with the waiting...

She is quite happy to go GCH as an alternative.
She did quite like G&L but the commute from home would be a pig. Both husband & I have worked and done the commute and couldn't wait to move.
I did email a few bursars and all would only wave registration fee if you were in reciept of UC or similar benefits.

She classes herself as weird and she imbraces that, she knows she likes school and it's something she is good at.
The only thing she is a bit disappointed in is that unsurprisingly none of the schools play Flag Football! She started American Football earlier this year and is loving it.

@autumnnightsaredrawingin, 🤞 you get good news from Woldingham this week!

Thinking of you and your DD...

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 06/12/2019 15:20

It’s a yes for my DD for Woldingham! Hugely relieved and happy. Although it’s not our top choice, it’s a lovely school and so nice to have one in the bag before Christmas. Takes a little bit of pressure off and if she’s not successful anywhere else we’d be more than happy for her to go there. Has anyone else heard from them? Good luck to all.

Fantastic news about Woldingham @autumnnightsaredrawingin!!! What a relief - and how nice to have a firm offer in the bag before Christmas. That will give your dd a real boost for her next exams.

ColaPip · 06/12/2019 16:12

Wonderful news!! Thrilled for you and what a fantastic boost for DD.

RevolutionofOurTime · 06/12/2019 16:19

That’s great news! Well done to your DD!

cosima1 · 06/12/2019 19:33

Huge congrats Autumn!

cosima1 · 06/12/2019 19:36

A friend of DD’s went there and loves it. She was flexi boarding a couple of nights. She told me Nigel Farage is / was a parent there (be warned)!!!! Shock

PhilippaFawcett · 06/12/2019 20:52

Congratulations!! Great to have one banked so early. Good luck for the others

hedwigshandbag · 08/12/2019 09:10

@autumnnightsaredrawingin thanks! She is also doing surbiton, streatham and Clapham, plus Emanuel. I flit from being excited about it all being nearly over to having a total inner panic that there's not much time yet before it all starts!

RevolutionofOurTime · 10/12/2019 00:21

@hedwigshandbag, congrats to your daughter!

Has anyone received information from LEH about their assessment day? They had said more information would be sent in early December, but we’ve not had anything yet. Thanks!

PhilippaFawcett · 10/12/2019 06:53

We heard from LEH last Friday with details of their exam arrangements. If you didn't hear maybe you should chase them. Still waiting to hear from every other January exam though...

givemesomewineplease · 10/12/2019 07:30

We received a letter from LEH on Monday with the exam details and a thoughtful leaflet written for the girls. As you're abroad it'll probably just take a little longer to reach you.

RevolutionofOurTime · 10/12/2019 08:50

Thanks! I’ve emailed them.

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 10/12/2019 10:56

We also heard from LEH last week with the arrangements for the exam. An early start!

RevolutionofOurTime · 10/12/2019 12:29

😱 how early?

PhilippaFawcett · 10/12/2019 14:57

Need to be there for 8.15am, car park opens at 8 I think

RevolutionofOurTime · 10/12/2019 15:13

Thank you 🙏

PhilippaFawcett · 12/12/2019 07:04

Has anyone heard back from Kingston Grammar or Surbiton High about exam times?

RevolutionofOurTime · 12/12/2019 10:26

Just the holding email from Surbiton on 5 December, but nothing since.

We’re not doing KGS so I can’t help with that one.

Our letter from LEH arrived yesterday. Now I just need to find a way to motivate DD for the last stretch!
