SW London girls independent/grammars thread 2020

Last year, there were two amazing threads which were super helpful about exactly this, so I wanted to start a thread for girls due to start September 2020. If anyone from last year wants to contribute please do!

We have narrowed our choices down to 5, sadly not in the right postcode for Tiffin, and decided not to do the Sutton grammars.

So, she will be doing PHS, WHS, LEH, SHS and Woldingham. Also registered for Emanuel but we may pull that one.

Do the heads of the schools the girls attend receive the consortium results as well?

Well done @abc79 and @autumnnightsaredrawingin! DD also got an interview at Putney. We’ll do ours by Skype, I hope the technology doesn’t fail us..

Great news everyone! DD has also got an interview at PHS - delighted for her and also a bit shocked.

I was sneakily checking email during a meeting and pretty much lost the thread of the conversation after that - oops!

Congratulations to all on the PHS interviews. No idea how many they are interviewing this year as last year they interviewed everyone, but you could always phone and ask? You would not need to give your name I would think the odds are quite good though?

If it helps, DD had an interview there last year and it wasn’t an academic one at all, if I remember rightly. There were three pictures and they could choose one of them to talk about. Apart from that, it was the usual - hobbies, favourite subjects, why do you like PHS, where else have you applied, etc. They did ask, “If you had a day where you could do anything, what would you do?” They did ask one other quite searching, random question too, but I can’t remember what it was. Oh, I think the question was something about water supply and how populations control it. Something like that?

So does anyone know when we will hear from Surbiton? I have variously heard 'late Jan' and 'first week of February from them.

Last year they said the same and they posted letters Jan 31st, so I hope we should hear next Friday, if they follow the same timeline!

Surbiton letters usually arrive on a Saturday afaik. I would guess this year that will mean 1st Feb.
