Top English/Bottom Maths - 11+ Prospects/SWLondon?

I've just had a meeting with DD's Y6 teacher re school applications and 11+. She was also her Y5 teacher, so knows her well.

According to her teacher, DD is well above average in English (top 5 in class) but near the bottom in Maths. It's a high achieving class apparently, so not sure if class position helps much.

They don't do much reasoning (state primary) but her VR is excellent but NVR is weaker.

The teacher's assessment is consistent with our views and the 11+ prep we're doing at home, so I think - more or less - that's how she would perform at 11+.

Her teacher says there's plenty of scope for her to improve in Maths by January exams, and should be able to achieve 50-60% in an exam.

Also, the teacher thinks she would interview well, particularly in creative type interviews.

Has anyone's DC been in a similar position and have they successfully applied to schools such as Emanuel, Ibstock Place, Kingston Grammar and Kew House?

Thanks,
Stressed of SWLondon

Amidaiwas, how would you know what value added schools have for Maths since it is only cacluted and published for Sixth Form?

OP, Radnor House is coed and relatively easy to get into so an alternative to St Cath’s in the same area.

For a single sex school, Sutton High is a good one. They have some very high achievers and some Oxbridge offers every year. However, they do take a mix of abilities and cater for the pupils accordingly. It’s a very nurturing school too.

Because they show it at open day based on tests they do with the first years.

Anecdotally from dds' friends too, based on how they were when they left yr6 from the same primary and then what they get at GCSE.

By the way my dcs are at neither StC or Surbiton. I have no vested interest. I just know plenty who are there/have been.

Not being external exams, I wouldn't take them for gospel. If tested at the start of the academic year, children always underperform compared to their performance before the holidays. Obviously, they might just be fabulous at teaching Maths.

They sit CEM/Durham tests so they are externally assessed. DD's school also sits them regularly to monitor progress and to make sure no-one is slipping through the cracks. The tables of best value added from CEM assessments by Indys used to be published but I can't find it now.
