Hi we have been recommended this school by our current Headmaster and absolutely love the look of it.

My only concern is the distance as we currently live in Woking and it would mean taking the train and catching a shuttle bus from Hook station.

We were always considering schools that offer flexi-boarding so this journey would only be two/three times a week.

Can any current parents give me an idea as to how many children take the train? Is it do-able?

Thanks

That would be a long day! I think you have to consider your child’s tiredness levels, can they do clubs if they need to get the bus and train after school, how will they hang out with friends in holidays etc? What time does the normal school day finish? How long is the train journey/ shuttle bus - is what time would DC have to get up each morning. Would this impact on evening activities.

We were going to consider LWC four our boys if they hadn’t got in to Churchers - we live in Haslemere so 35-40 mins away with no traffic. I also teach so realistically they’d have needed to board

My son is at LWC. He weekly boards, but many of the boys flexiboard, hence the journey not every day. They come from all over the place, so I think its what works for you/your family. Many children stay afterschool for activities, have supper, do prep then go home. but others leave as soon as he school day finishes. happy to answer any questions directly if you'd like.
good luck with your decision

Thanks it would mean getting up around 7:00 catching the 7:25 train and getting to school around 8.

I am not sure what time the school day would finish but on days when there were activities he would be staying at school.

Planning to move very close to the station to make it easier.

I keep telling myself it's no further than Leatherhead or Godalming the other two schools were considering?!

I think it's because we don't know anyone else considering it from our school this year.

You're quite close to us and probably looking at some of the same schools we looked at last year - though I didn't go and see LWC. I don't think those timings are dreadful especially if your son is only going to be doing the journey a couple of times a week. Some of the school buses leave Woking earlier than that for schools which aren't nearly so far!

It's a great school, certainly in terms of facilities.

My main concern would be the unreliability of the trains, they are doing my head in at the moment! EVERY time I or my son need to use the train, there's a problem. In fact there's a problem right now, according to the SWR twitter feed.
