Does LEA check the voters roll when establishing address?

Well given you can say you don't want your name to appear on a public roll, I don't see how they can?

From reading here, if in doubt they tend to use child benefit, council tax, bills and home visits.

You know you can't own one home and then buy/rent another to scam the system, don't you?

Some LEAs don’t have problems with people trying to get school places in this way whereas others are overrun with it. When I applied for a secondary place we had just arrived in the country and I was staying with my parents. We had nothing at all with our address on at all but it didn’t come up.

I know someone who used their mum’s address and got a place and then someone told admissions and they were asked to provide evidence and they obviously couldn’t and the place was withdrawn.m

What you mean is, can you cheat the system?
No you can't! not easily anyway. Quite a number of schools have chucked kids out in Y7 if fraudulent entry is established.

Also, for people thinking about playing fast and loose with addresses (not saying the OP is given the lack of background info), remember you aren't cheating the system, you are defrauding another child of their rightful place at a school.

They'll make multiple checks, against all the data held by any part of the Council (council tax records being the commoner one)

They may ask for further proofs of address - perhaps the address held by the primary school, utility bills, home visit by admissions team member (usually only in hotspots where home flipping is rife)

Very easily. - the register is complied by the council, the full form is their data in the first place

Whilst that is true, there are limits on the use they can make of the full electoral register. Checking addresses for admissions purposes is not one of the permitted uses.
