A friends child is using Tassomai for GCSE science revision/catch up. I was interested in experiences of it. Also if there is something similar to work through whole syllabus online for other GCSE subjects where it logs the accuracy of the answers, time spent and progress. Thanks

Others have mentioned Seneca on here.
DS has created an account and chosen the courses he is doing but about to go into Year 10 and not started GCSE'S yet so don't know how good it is.
It is free but some of the content seems to be for paying customers only, however I think it's between £3 & £13/month so cheaper than tassomai

Yes school had mentioned Seneca as a free option for science. I was wondering about for other subjects as DC finds science easy whereas it might be useful for languages or arts subjects.

Most subjects are on seneca.

chewable24 · 25/08/2019 22:18

I was told Tassomai is far better for science than Seneca. Are there any other programmes you pay for more like Tassomai but for languages/arts?

Our experience is Seneca is far better for science. Definitely improved Dds gcse from grade 7-9

Arewedone · 25/08/2019 22:29

Seneca does give you a full breakdown of correct answers, time spent studying etc

My year 10 daughter has Tassomai for triple science GSCE. It's expensive, but she really struggles with the subject and I can't help. She thinks its OK, especially for quick questions and knowing facts. To actually understand and go over concepts, she prefers Mr Science Guy on YouTube and there are certainly other sites too - Khan academy, Seneca as mentioned. In Y 9 she had My science GCSE and another paid one, but other then revision mind maps and exam questions, I don't think she found them brilliant. I think you need a variety of sources to really back up their learning across the syllabus. Tassomai do Latin + French and 11+ English I think too now. She uses and likes Memorize for languages, which I think is free.

Ds used Tassomai for science,he said it was excellent.

hardheadedwoman · 26/08/2019 13:14

Both my kids used Tassomai and it really helped them

raspberryrippleicecream · 26/08/2019 14:29

I tried Tassomai French for DS2 but it didn't suit him, he preferred to use a revision book and learn lists of vocab.

Hi, I'm from Tassomai and I noticed your question about our program. You can read feedback from parents whose children have just taken their GCSE exams in this blog post: www.tassomai.com/blog-content/2019/9/4/does-tassomai-work-and-is-it-worth-the-money. Feel free to give one of our team a call if you have any questions! We're also planning a promo this Autumn, you can register for updates here: www.tassomai.com/autumn-promo.

@TassoTeam Most of the blog was people saying their DC had got 8s or 9s, or would have had they started earlier.

How does it work for lower ability kids? Can you say 'don't bother with the really hard stuff', or does it only quiz on the hard stuff once you have mastered the easier stuff?

TassoTeam · 04/09/2019 19:35

@TeenPlusTwenties - the program starts with easier quizzes to encourage students and help the algorithm work out their level of understanding. The program then adapts for each user, introducing new topics when they master others. Parents also have the ability to control what topics are shown, which can be useful if students need to focus on a particular area. Tassomai actually works really well for lower ability children, it's not just for those expecting the top grades. This short video we made with a school in Rochdale might interest you as the teachers talk about the impact Tassomai has had on results of students who weren't predicted to do that well in their exams...

TeenPlusTwenties · 04/09/2019 19:39

Thanks, I'll have a look.
I have a bit of a distrust of online learning (because I'm old, and because if they are online they can get distracted to other stuff) but I do keep hearing good things about it on MN so there must be something in it. Smile

Comefromaway · 05/09/2019 11:42

My dd found it brilliant. She had some poor science teaching in Year 9 & 10 and was underachieving. She raised her grade from predicted 6 to 7 8 8.

Ds however refuses to use it and is using Seneca. He is clever but has SEN. He is supposed to be taking Higher science but might be dropped to foundation. He found tassomai frustrating in the multiple choice format.

I would still reccomend the programme to at least try.

Historygeek05 · 05/09/2019 12:28

My DD (sat GCSEs this year) used the science courses from Ezyeducation and found them really useful. Each topic has a video folllowed by an assesment. After each assessment question there is a short video clip explaining why the right answer is the right answer which was helpful when she got questions wrong. I thought the videos were clear and explained things well. Much cheaper than Tassomai too!
