Flexible learning for Yr 11 with anxiety

Hi,

Does anybody have any experience with flexible learning for a Yr 11 student?

My dd suffers from extreme anxiety and as a result spends a lot of time missing school due to panic attacks.

I was considering home schooling but have recently found out about flexible learning (PT at school, PT at home). This seems like a far better option to get her through to her GCSEs but apparently, whilst it’s legal in the uk, it’s not a given that the school will accept the idea.

Has anyone else done this and if so, I’d really appreciate hearing about how you managed to implement it and what your experience of it was?

Thanks x

Hi, I've recently had Blended Learning approved for my Yr10 daughter but it wasn't easy. I would suggest getting a GP referral to CAHMS if you haven't already done so and in the meantime talk to the school - is there a pastoral team?

Thank you patty, we have been under CAHMS for 18 months already and the school are very aware of the problems we are facing in terms of how her anxiety affects her attendance so, fingers crossed that can be of help xx

That sounds promising. I would suggest mentioning to the school "reasonable adjustments". Under the SEND code, anxiety is classified as a disability so therefore the school needs to provide reasonable adjustments for the child to access education. Good luck! :-)
