Teen boy shoes

Just wanted other opinions to solve a debate we are having at home, would you class these types of footwear as shoes or trainers? Also what would be acceptable shoes at your children's school?

My eldest ds moves up to secondary school in September and his school say trainers are only allowed in Pe, all shoes should be back and polishable, no vans, converse of fabric shoes but Nike airforce are allowed. I'm slightly confused as to what is classed as trainers and what is classed as shoes and also if airforce are allowed are polishable trainers then allowed. It has been written poorly and is very unclear.

The m and s ones are advertised as shoes and I've seen other people recommend a kickers version where as the Slazenger ones are similar and advertised as trainers. Also the other Slazenger pair look very similar to the Air Force ones so would they meet the criteria? I'm just trying to work out where the line is drawn between shoes and trainers for boys and why it says no trainers yet airforce are allowed.

I'd play safe and stick to things that are definitely shoes. From the ones you've posted that would be the M&S pair.
I agree that it's very odd that Nike AirForce would be allowed.
Might be worth you ringing the school and clarifying?

My son's school has colour photos of what is acceptable, in fact they show 6 pairs of boys' shoes and 6 pairs of girls' shoes!

Maybe you could suggest that to them for clarification for future parents. It is on our school website complete with equipment list and even what type of belt they can wear. It is strict though and we would not be allowed Nike Air Force.

The only thing I will say about the M&S ones linked is how durable are they? My year 9 child still runs around at break and lunch so his shoes get trashed easily. Shoe polish hides a multitude of scuffs as does a black sharpie for when he wears down any fabric that wraps around the top of the shoe Grin

I would lean more toward shoes to play it safe.

Thank you both.

I just couldn't get my head around it as it was so jumbled, especially with airforce being named and allowed yet no other trainers, very odd. I had asked others at the school and all said the majority of kids including their own wore airforces which I won't and can't pay for.

Ds wanted to go for some black polishable ones similar to those pictured as most we have found were Velcro types which I'm told is a strict no no and the other alternative seems to be formal slip on shoes and he really didn't want to wear them HmmI suspect as he knows he can't play footie in them is partly why. I will stick to the formal ones and he will just have to moan.

We have just had a similar dilemma with DS regarding high school shoes or are they trainers? The M&S ones would be too trainers for DS's school. The lacing is wide spaced like Converse etc, rather than more forma and narrow. We have got these Hush Puppies. We got them from Clinkards]]
