Does anyone have DC at either school? Both very different obviously but both potential choices for DS. Also wondered if anyone knows why fees at Aldenham are SO much more than most other private schools locally?

Aldenham is more expensive because it’s a boarding school. Longer days, more extra curricular, bigger grounds to maintain etc. Whilst there are a lot of day children there, higher up the school in particular many board Monday to Friday to fit everything in. You benefit from this as a day pupil - hence the ££££.

Both have similar academic profile. Aldenham might be slightly more thought of. I would decide if co-Ed or single sex is preferred.

Thanks Zodel- that's helpful - coed would be better I think. He's an odd mix of very high scores on core subjects and consistent lower scores at the VRNR. Loves all things outdoors and is very articulate and empathetic so it's a bit of a mix really. A happy boy who I don't want to make unhappy!

I know boys at both who sound very similar to your son. Both are thriving and very happy (as are their parents).

If you are happy with both options then register him at both - he will be invited to various taster events prior to entrance exams and it helps get a much better feel for the school.

Thanks again, that's good to hear. I've registered and been to open days at both so have a good feel and we'll see what the test in January bring!
