The short answer is 'no'. Whereabouts in London will you be living?

No chance! There very few grammars in London are way more selective than the Kent one. You won't even be able to take the exam unless there's a vacancy in any case.

It depends where you are moving. All schools have an in-year admissions policy. We're near Bexley and they get you to take an on-screen test, which is held about once a month. You can take this test once in any academic year. If your age-standardised score is above their selective threshold then you can ask to be put on the waiting list for any of the grammar schools. People on the list are offered places according to the usual criteria eg distance from the school.

You probably know, but the procedure for applying for a grammar school after GCSEs (to do A-levels etc) is different. At 16+ many schools are selective, but just grammar schools. Selection is normally on the basis of GCSEs but some have subject tests too. The open events for 16+ are usually held in October or November and some clash, so we started going to sixth form open events a couple of years before DS would need to apply, just to make sure we could actually get to the ones we wanted.
