Frensham Heights - SEN support - dyslexia

Does anyone currently have a dyslexic son at Frensham Heights? Looking for secondary school for ds age 10 (starting Y6 in September). Previously he was at a tiny primary school but we moved him to private prep school for extra support - he was v behind. We had looked at Frensham at that time but were told they couldn’t help. Now catching-up well, he’s bright but dyslexic. He can stay at current school until end of Y8 but have been told we need to get a place now? Present school suggest Frensham Heights but worried as we were turned down before and the last thing I need is for him to lose the confidence he’s just beginning to gain. Have looked at More House and have friends with sons there but don’t feel it’s the right place for us. Any help, advice, suggestions very gratefully received as at the moment feel I’m wading through treacle! Thank you.

Seaford College, the Royal school in Haslemere? Your school must have made other suggestions not just one senior. Im also trying to find schools in the area that have strong SEN support for a boy and it's very tricky.

Thank you Guiloak yes they also suggested Ship Lake which is fabulous but he’d have to board (which in theory isn’t a problem) but the cost unfortunately is prohibitive 😫. We have very little choice within a reasonable distance which is why we’re looking at Frensham.

I'd look at the Royal school or even other schools in Haslemere. (Or even a decent state school.)

Seaford not Shiplake. Seaford has buses from Farnham area.

Perhaps have a look at Alton. They are co-ed now and have a good reputation for supporting dyslexic children.

Knowl Hill?

Thank you to everyone. I’ll take a look at Seaford - website looks very impressive. Just had such a nightmare in the state system I’m not willing to take that risk again.

The Royal has asked children with dyslexia to leave. Not all but some.

Was he at SF before? I have heard not such good things about there. There are good and bad schools in both systems. Are you in contact with the Helen Arkyll centre at all? I have had very good advice from them in the past.

I'd give FH a wide berth TBH. A friend approached them for y7 entry with a dyslexic child, they turned them down on the basis of the assessment without letting them sit the entrance exam. Also a new head at the moment and a lot of changes going on.

I teach in the area and have sent pupils to Frensham who are dyslexic. One was very artistic another musical and two were amazing dancers.

Seaford have become more selective, but they do still offer places to pupils with dyslexia and support them well. Both my DS have dyslexic friends there in yr7-11.

Have you looked at Ditcham Park in Petersfield?

Hi BermudaBelle, it’s been a while since this thread was active but I wondered if you could tell me what prep school your son went to which was able to help with his dyslexia. I am in a similar position and looking for tips on prep schools in Hampshire/Surrey that might be able to help. Thanks
