Could you tell me how much it costs to rent a locker at your child’s secondary school (state)?

£5 a year. Not many bother though.

TeenTimesTwo · 26/06/2019 10:28

5 pounds here too.
DD has one for PE kit to save carrying it back and forth and around at school, though I think a lot of the tutor rooms have cupboards they can be stored in too.
DD's school tend to keep exercise books in the classroom, and don't send text books home, so there isn't a lot to be stored.

I can’t remember off the top of my head but it’s either £20 or £25pa. Stopped paying as dc just use bag racks for kit and instrument store for instruments.

TremblingFanjo · 26/06/2019 10:55

£18 a year. They fit a relatively small sports bag. No chance of sharing!

DC1 has an old one - much much bigger and cost £10 for his entire time at school.

fairweathercyclist · 26/06/2019 11:07

It was £5 at ds' school. He only bothered one year.

Bumblenut · 26/06/2019 13:03

Thanks for the responses. Our school have just outsourced locker rental meaning the cost has jumped from £5 to £22 a yea. Seems excessive to me but not unheard of.

In my day you just bought a padlock and used that, no registration or anything - anyone know why this practice has changed?

I paid £10 refundable , for both lads. That was from when I paid until they left High school.
Which reminds me..... ... where is my 20 quid!!!🤣🤣🤣

AuntieMarys · 26/06/2019 13:09

£25 here

RedSkyLastNight · 26/06/2019 15:09

£10 refundable. It's a necessity as the school has a no bags policy.

In answer to your question, clearly the price has jumped so the company can make money, and I guess there must be abuse of lockers by systems, which is why it's not just "bring your own padlock".

MirandaWest · 26/06/2019 15:11

I was about to say that locker rental charges are going up at DCs school - neither of mine have a locker at the moment as DD shares with a friend to put PE kit in and I’m not sure what DS does Grin

Are you in York, as the figures sound the same as the ones mentioned in an email from school.

gaelicgirl · 26/06/2019 15:14

I've never heard of locker rental - they have to bring in their own padlock, but there's no charge Confused

Notcontent · 26/06/2019 22:40

RedSky - what is a no bag policy? I am intrigued...

Bimkom · 26/06/2019 22:45

No idea that some schools had a locker rental fee either. My DC it is also just bring a padlock. In Year 7 they were required to bring one with two keys, and give on to the head of year, so if key one was lost, head of year could open said locker without sawing off padlock. For the higher years they don't seem to require this.
In Year 9 my DS was allocated a broken locker (ie padlock could not be affixed), so he only used it for his sports kit and carried everything he needed in his bag. I thought I should have complained, but DS insisted that I not do so, on the grounds that the school doesn't have enough money to fix them, and better he in Year 9 have a broken locker than the tiny Year 7s.

RedSkyLastNight · 27/06/2019 08:13

No bag policy.... The school has very narrow corridors and some small rooms (Allegedly it was designed so as a cost cutting exercise). So to maximise space/traffic, students are only allowed bags in the entrance areas and up to lockers. After that they are just expected to carry whatever they need, hence they need to return to their lockers at break/lunch times to dump stuff and pick up other stuff. Most carry diaries and pencil cases in blazer pockets, so they just swap books for next lessons.

£25 for the 5yrs they are at secondary school
