Hello , Would anyone know where to find info on proximity ? How can I argue that we are closer if we I don't know the areas that have been allocated a place Thanks .

Do you mean greatest distance offered?

The information shouid be published (or readily available on request) from either your Council,(Education Depratment) or direct from the schools (esp when school - academy or VA - is its own admissions authority)

Just wanted to check if someone who is further away from the school than me has been allocated a place whist I'm having to appeal . Thanks

Just remember its not just about distance but distance by admissions category. A child with an EHCP or an adopted child may well be offered a place when living at a far greater distance than that offered for catchment children.

The admissions authority should tell you the last and furthest distance offered in your category (which is the important thing) if you ask.

Do you have any reason to believe a mistake has been made?

The Lea measure distance based on the shortest available walking route, road /footpath
The school measure in a straight line from the mid point of pupils home to school reception . The furthest distance is 8.635 according to lea and we are over that. Why is this measured differently?

Most LEAs do not have control of many secondary schools. If it is an academy they will have their own admission criteria so hence the difference.

If it haven’t already got it get your waitlist position and what distance they think you are from the school and also under which criteria you were considered. This may shed some light on things.

Admission authorities are free to set their own admission priorities. They can also set their own definition of distance. So the fact that LA schools in your authority use walking distance does not mean all schools in their area have to adopt that definition, so the academy is perfectly able to choose crow flies distance, as long as they apply that to all applicants.
