Good independent schools in the Southampton/Hampshire area

What recommendations do people have for the best independent schools in Southampton and Hampshire? My son is on-target academically and has Asperger’s so would thrive best in a nurturing school with good pastoral care and some Elsa. He has no behaviour issues. Have visited most in the area and keen to find out the views of others.

The provision is all so different isn't it. I got the impression that King Edwards for instance is much more flat-out academically and when visited and asked about SEND provision they only mentioned that they had a school nurse. Ditcham Park and Meoncross seem much more inclusive. DS is academic however I would like to know that he will be nurtured and looked after pastorally.

yes i completely agree. have you looked round meoncross and spoken to the SEN department themselves? (often easier to do when its a 'school in action day' rather than an open day) x

I visited Meoncross quite recently, lovely place however because they are so small they are full in the Upper School, and were suggesting a move into Y5 where there are some spaces. DS is settled in his present school and I wouldn't want to move him until Y6. Notwithstanding the extra £20,000+ in school fees it would involve.

Y 7 I meant.

oh ok, would you consider a school that isn't independent? Henry Cort secondary might be worth a look if so, you can read about their SEN provisions here x

Have you considered The Gregg? Has extensive learning support offering, isnt academically selective yet also does well academically. We have been particularly impressed by pastoral care.

Yes The Gregg looks lovely, will check out Henry Cort, anyone had an experience of St Mary's Independent?

Depending on how academic your son is i’d suggest

The Gregg (very nurturing and inclusive)
Or
King Edward’s (very good pastorally and large enough that there is a tribe for everyone)
