DC is thinking of applying to a super-selective sixth form next year, with admissions offers based on a ranking of average estimated grade for their best 8 'qualifying' GCSE subjects.
He's doing Computer Science GCSE, which doesn't qualify, although I understand is considered relatively academic. Any thoughts on why it wouldn't be included? I'm wondering if it's a hangover from previous years when part of the assessment was based on coursework, but this is now no longer the case.
Also, I'm concerned about the "estimated grades" thing because DC's current school doesn't produce estimated grades as a matter of course. He has minimum target grades, which is what teachers regard as well within his capability, but they make it clear that students can do better if they work hard and have a good day. The minimum targets are capped at a grade 8 yet he is highly capable of a 9 in maths and possibly some other qualifying subjects. Obviously his current school would like him to stay there for sixth form, so they don't really have an incentive to provide him with glowing estimated grades.
