Is school then 'out' or do pupils continue attending until the end of term?

Our school does leavers assembly and party after the last exams, then they aren't due in until 6th form sign up and results day.

DD2 won't be getting a summer job, she'll be going out with friends, going on holiday with me and her older sister and resting!

Ds's school have said they can leave at break on Thursday if they don't have an exam that afternoon (Ds does)

Then Friday Physics exam in the morning, followed by leavers' assembly and off school grounds before lunch kicks out for the younger pupils.

After that they are only expected in school for revision sessions or exams which are German and Statistics for Ds next week.

Taster day at sixth form is in July and not part of the school. Ds won't be getting a summer job and definitely won't be gaming all summer, he is currently putting together a timetable/list of things he will do including films he wants to watch, books to read, songs to learn to play, recipes he wants to cook and some stuff for sixth form.

And yes, he will really do this. He is a very motivated child. Self taught rubix cube, guitar, piano etc Grin

DS will be attending an FE college next year, so not staying for 6th form. However he can remain at school after the last exam on Friday for organised activities until 23rd July.

Dd attends a vocational school so once GCSE's were finished there was prom, prize day and then they went into full time rehearsals for the school production. There was no study leave.

At ds's school children are free to leave either after their last exam is finished or after the last Friday in June which is the official school leaving date in England (whichever comes first). Many schools don't give study leave any more.

At ds's school however the kids who took music are welcome in to rehearse for the summer music concert which takes place on 1st July.

DS has just finished GCSEs but is popping in from time to time for the odd music lesson, music rehearsals, sports and one session on preparing for 6th form. There is a music trip at the end of term. The school has also been monitoring efforts to secure work experience over the summer.

Y11 leave after the last cohort exam. Then they just come in if they have an exam. Otherwise that's them done for good!

ASauvignonADay · 17/06/2019 07:12

That's for us anyway. Schools vary massively.

They also can't start work or increase hours until this date. In the UK anyway so it's illegal for under 16's to work?

Ds crashed out all summer and had a well deserved break.

WhyAmIPayingFees · 17/06/2019 08:26

Well done Soursprout - we think that having study leave is really important, though providing optional revision classes for those who want them makes sense too. It was one of the factors affecting which senior schools we applied to - we did not apply to any that did not allow it.

so it's illegal for under 16's to work?

Up until the last Friday in June of Year 11 (doesn't matter whether they are 16 or not) a young person can work part time in certain jobs but days and times are restricted and the employer has to obtain a licence from the local authority.
