LEH uniform questions

Are there any LEH parents on here I could ask a few questions about the uniform? My daughter is starting in September and I’m a bit confused about which items are essential and whether I can purchase some things from other shops without her standing out too much (eg socks, games bag, towel for swimming). Is one jumper and one skirt sufficient? Any other tips helpful too to save me buying items unnecessarily. Thank you.

Can't help on LEH specifics but DD is at a similar school and her uniform list specified what had to be bought from the school shop and what didn't- the shop were also v helpful.
I can't see how you'd get away with one shirt and jumper though? DD has 3 of each - she needs a clean one every day as they seem to get dirtier than they did at primary school...

Thanks for replying. Yes I have a list but some items are optional. The shop is all online. I realise she’ll need more than one shirt but I’m hoping to get away with one skirt and one jumper (they also have a jacket).

dd (current year 7) has 2 skirts which I hope will make it all 5 years with maybe moving buttons (she’s tall for her age). She’s on her 3rd pair of trousers as they are very slim fitting around the thighs and she’s quite muscly - had to go up a size for this so very baggy around waist/hips.

She only has one jumper (should have bought 2 as its looking bobbly). The shirts are actually quite nice quality (we have 4 short sleeves she won’t wear the long) but I believe some people have got away with m&s or equivalent!

Any grey socks are fine, I specifically chose a different games bag so it would stand out, ditto the towel!

You can get away without the jacket but you will want the sports base layer leggings if your dd will be playing in netball/lax teams.

Get a really good supportive backpack though - they seem to carry everything around all the time!

Thank you. That’s really helpful. Do most girls prefer to wear short-sleeved rather than long? Can they have any colour backpack?

Any backpack at all is fine but do get a proper one not a flimsy fashion one!

Sorry OP- meant to say more than one skirt not shirt! I wasn't imagining you getting one shirt!

Guiloak · 08/06/2019 19:25

You need more than one skirt, skirt sometimes ends up in PE bag and left at school in my experience, at a similar school. 3 shirts and 3 skirts, wash on Wednesday.

I recommend 2 skirts , 2 jumpers. Don’t bother with the blazer. Never ever worn .

littlemisslucky2 · 09/06/2019 08:46

Thanks for your replies. Pamplemoussed- the uniform list states the jacket is compulsory but I will check on the induction day whether it’s necessary as it seems ridiculous to buy it if it isn’t needed!

My daughter wore hers on day 1 of year 7 two years ago because we thought it was compulsory and has not put it on since. Not once. I doubt she could wear it if she wanted to. I assumed that if she chose not to wear it daily she would need it for more formal events like a choir concert but they wear black dresses for those. I suspect the school would encourage you to buy it if you asked them if it is necessary. Agree with pp too about shirts . The jumpers are so thick ( and poor quality..) that the girls stick to short sleeve shirts all year round.

pamplemoussed · 09/06/2019 10:58

Meant to say - Could not wear it now because it would not fit..

littlemisslucky2 · 09/06/2019 11:31

Thanks, very helpful. I was going to buy long sleeved shirts but will definitely switch to short sleeves. Not sure how brave I am not to buy the blazer.....Do any of the girls wear them?
One more question - how strict are they about coats? My dd has a plain navy one but it states black jacket (the one on the online shop is horrible!!)

We have a black windcheater but a thicker (existing) navy coat she wears in colder months.

pamplemoussed · 09/06/2019 11:50

And no - no one wears blazers and no one buys the black sample coat on the uniform list. No one buys the fleece jacket or the school scarf either. I have 2 girls at the school and have never even seen a scarf . The reality is the sports kit is the big cost - you need a lot of it and it gets worn and replaced a lot.

SilentSister · 09/06/2019 12:05

Bucking the trend here, DD1 had one skirt throughout her entire time Yr7 to Yr11 Shock, she is quite slight though. DD2 had one skirt up to Yr9 and another from Yr9 to Yr11. Worn all week, washed at the weekends. Three blouses and two jumpers though, Yr7's are really sweaty. Also I bought new to begin with, but with replacements have only ever bought second hand through the PTA.

Agree with pamplemoussed it's the sports kit that's the killer, and also the most likely to get lost.
