Secondary school after home education

Hi everyone.
I will begin to home educate my child from the next academic year and I will be following national curriculum, so that for the future, my child has a choice to either continue to stay at home or go back to secondary school and not be behind in anything. However, something crossed my mind. Could a secondary school refuse a place to my child on the basis that he did not do the SATs or just because he was home schooled? I am talking here about a secondary school that is in the area and if my child would to continue primary school, he would probably be accepted there.
Would be grateful if anyone could share anything on this topic. I literally cannot find any information about it.
Thank you.

Sats would t be a problem - independent schools don't do them either and I don't think they reject for home schooling either. The LA has to give you a place somewhere surely, if and when you apply. But there will be experts on here who know for sure!

Not generally at a disadvantage but you may find attendance at a particular primary school gives priority in applications , in rural areas or academy chains. Private schools often avoid Sats so not a factor.

All mine went to (3 different) secondary schools after being home educated. Not a problem at all, apart from the 2 who went to the same comprehensive didn't have SATS-based targets, which confused some of their teachers. As a PP says, some schools do have feeder schools as an entry criterion, but unless you have very little choice that's hopefully not an issue. (I think one school out of the dozen or so available to us used feeder schools.)

It's very common for home educated children to start secondary school, and not having SATs isn't a problem. You can discuss it with the school once you've accepted the place and see if they want to give a test for setting. Just keep an eye out on case they are putting them in sets from the start for any subjects - in that case I think it's best to push for testing and try to get them in the right place from the outset, rather than have the school make assumptions.
