GCSE exams - illness

My son is in the middle of his year eleven GCSEs. He woke up yesterday with a swollen neck and has been diagnosed with mumps. This despite having all the jabs.
He is poorly and highly contagious and obviously will be unable to sit and exams this week.
Does anyone know what will happen please?

Hope he feels better soon. You need to contact your school's exam officer and they will advise. Not sure if they go with mock and predicted grades.

www.jcq.org.uk/exams-office/access-arrangements-and-special-consideration/regulations-and-guidance/a-guide-to-the-special-consideration-process-2018-2019

Click on the guide, and look at chapter 4.

You have to have done at least 25% of the award, so it looks like provided not all the papers are missed they can work out a grade.

Our DD had novovirus and couldn’t sit one GCSE; we had to send in a doctor’s certificate and they then used the results in her other paper so she did get a grade. The exam officer is your key contact so get in touch with them immediately - we were in te phone first thing on the Monday, I remember, a d she explained what to do. If your DC has mumps others may have been infected too, which couldn’t come at a worse time. I hope your DC feels better soon - it’s a nasty illness (I had it as a child).

F*ing stupid anti vaxxers have probably caused this. It's high time that we treated not vaccinating as neglect.

You need to ring the exams officer first thing this morning for advice.

Someone is sitting their exams in an isolation room at school as they have shingles Shock. Pity the poor invigilator. However, I also assume this might just be precautionary anti-infection control, and they are probably not so ill as your son, otherwise they would not be there.

Good luck, hope you get some support.
