Welcome all - just went to post on thread 2 and saw it was at 999 so quickly did this

OP posts:

I agree that for some kids they are too close together. My DD definitely suffered having English Lit, Chemistry and Computer Science one after the other. I suppose taking away the course work means that they have to fit in more exam papers in a certain time?

MoobaaMoobaa · 17/05/2019 06:48

srilanka definitely ring to tell them she has a migraine or something. it's in her best interests.

Bimkom sorry about your DS Flowers
It's such an emotional time. Hope he feels a bit better this morning after getting some sleep.

I'm not sure what sort of state my DS would be in if he had another exam today. We made him focus on the fact he had 4 days down time after CS.

loveonthewall · 17/05/2019 06:56

Morning all, no exams for mine today so he's due to attend normal timetabled lessons to revise. He's found doing that distracting because kids are chatting (and he can get sucked into the chat!) but he's been very diligent with revision at home so I've mailed school to say he's revising at home with my permission. Sleep and the most productive environment are my priorities for him.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 17/05/2019 06:59

History sources paper for Ds today. He's doing ok - got home about midday yesterday after chem, did a couple of hours revision and then went out to football training. Dp and I met him for pizza afterwards, then home and bed.

He reckons there's not much to revise for this paper - I'm not so sure but we'll see I guess! He's going in with a 9 in coursework anyway which is reassuring - just hope he doesn't bring that down too much Grin

Things are fairly relaxed here and I'm going to do all I can to keep it that way even if it means slacking off a bit on my usual expectations of him. Although he did ask to go out with his mates over the weekend and I said no, revision had to come first for this weekend at least. Next week he has 5 exams and none of them nice!

FlowersCakeWineBrew to everyone (child or parent) who is having a tough time. It's not too long now!

grauduroi · 17/05/2019 07:04

Nearly the end of week 1!

Off to french writing this morning, fingers crossed. Good luck to all taking exams today and a restful one to those who don't Smile

Iambuffy · 17/05/2019 07:10

Morning.

PE paper 2 for ds today.

pointythings · 17/05/2019 07:45

French and drama here, both strong suits. We had a collapse not a meltdown - DD1 found DD2 spark out on the sofa yesterday. It doesn't help that DD2 is having tests for possible arthritis so she is in constant pain.

And A levels start next week for DD1 yay...

Can I join in?

Dd has fared relatively well so far.
A slight wobble with biology (trilogy) when she came home and checked some of her answers and found she had made silly mistakes.
A bit of a panic before the English Lit exam as she ended up in the sick bay with a migraine. Luckily she felt ok to take the exam and was happy with how she did.
Chemistry yesterday was easier than she thought. This is her weakest science so she was quite relieved.
Drama today, which is her favourite subject and feels confident in.
And then it is the end of week 1. Woohoo :)

behindlocknumbernine · 17/05/2019 07:57

Oh yes, and there was RE on Monday. That one did not go quite so well...

Good luck to those who have an exam today.

behindlocknumbernine · 17/05/2019 07:57

Oh yes, and there was RE on Monday. I think that went ok-ish...

Good luck for today to those that have exams.

behindlocknumbernine · 17/05/2019 07:57

Apologies for my computer's brain fart....

Chocolate alarm went off in a school near us - market town, up a hill? My DD isn't there but some of her friends are.

Iambuffy · 17/05/2019 08:17

behind ds1 did that too. Hopefully the silly mistakes will only add up to a few 1 and 2 markers ;)

NoClueWithStyle · 17/05/2019 08:31

Good luck to those doing more exams today, and to the parents too.
Dd has no exams today and Monday and school have sensibly said they will put on supported revision sessions or pupils can stay at home. Dd is choosing to stay at home and have restful mornings (she never lies in past 7am) followed by some revison. We talked last night about what she needs to do for next wk and it was only few small areas that she wants to go over. She has worked hard and its paying off now, fingers crossed it does on results day too. Shes looking forward to next week because she will have maths and earlier in the wk said it was bad planning that there was no maths in wk one 'just for fun'. Funny how they all have their loved and hated subjects.

I'm rubbish at name checking on here but condolences to the lad whose mum has passed away, and sending strength to all who are struggling. 💐

readyforsunshine · 17/05/2019 08:38

Binkom & others with dc having crises, so sorry they are under such pressure, it must feel awful as a parent to see them so stressed when there’s only so much you can do to help. The W/e is almost here then they have half term to look forward to & a long summer after that.

readyforsunshine · 17/05/2019 08:38

& good luck to all those with exams today Smile

ILoveYou3000 · 17/05/2019 08:48

The pressure on them is awful, so much expectation for such young kids. Even my daughter's head of house has said the same and hinted she'd like me to write a letter about how things have been handled this year, with the kids' health and well-being having been made secondary.

Hope for all those having a crisis this week, it means it's done and out of the way and they can move forward feeling more positive.

DD is still very calm, she says she had all her nerves and anxiety back during the mocks. French today, but we have pretty much written it off, and I've not pushed her to revise for this one. I tried before and it all it did was cause upset. She doesn't need French and out of 100 taking it only 7 have been given the higher paper. Not sure if that says enough about the quality of the teaching they've received.

srilankadreaming · 17/05/2019 08:49

Good luck for all those with exams today. And sending best wishes to all those who are currently experiencing meltdowns or worse with their DC.
DD didn't go in and has been at her desk since 8 trying to sort Spanish revision. This is the casualty subject - the one that has been completely neglected. She doesn't know much vocab and started to get into a panic so I have said just try and learn a few main topics. It's all she can do at this late stage. Wednesday should be fun with that and her other 'favourite' Physics, preceded by maths on Tuesday. So the perfect storm... Can't wait!

Rugbylife · 17/05/2019 10:02

No study leave here but have let son stay home today to revise, gave him a lie in until 9am and said he had to start revising by 10am. School want them in but he will get distracted with chatting and banter. I’m home with him so it should be more productive than in school. 6 exams left and we’re done!

gleegeek · 17/05/2019 10:10

Morning. French should be nearly finished here! Really hoping it's gone ok. Dd is exhausted - keeping going for 4 weeks is going to be tough... I'm exhausted too, looking forward to having fun as a family again rather than tiptoeing around, trying not to add on stress etc etc.
Sorry for the dc having meltdowns. It's so hard knowing how to support them, particularly if they are at unsupportive schools. But we have survived the first week (nearly) ! Phew!

chocolateworshipper · 17/05/2019 10:12

DD is "ill" so that she could have a lie-in and then do revision with me - I have a much better idea of how to help her learn than her school do. This is part of the problem - schools just don't cater for all of the different learning styles. Very sorry to hear that some of your DCs are having meltdowns - it's so hard to watch isn't it? I'm now so relieved that DD chose 2 subjects that had exams at the end of year 10 and then just coursework in Y11 - it's made a massive difference to her exam timetable compared to her friends. It also helps that we have chosen target subjects that just happen to be fairly well spread out. She's not aiming for a pass in English Lit because there is no way she'd remember enough poems and quotes.

Very best of luck to all with exams today and I hope those struggling manage to get a good amount of rest over the weekend.

slalomsuki · 17/05/2019 10:13

History today and I'm glad it's the weekend. He seemed quite positive and knows he has to write loads and make a conclusion with an opinion as it's source work based.

He's off for lunch with his mates before he comes back and is going to a friends birthday meal later so all should be good here later.

Then it's maths and geography on Tuesday both of which are A level choices so it's a big ask.

steppemum · 17/05/2019 10:19

well, ds is looking forward to the end of French.
I just have to stop him chucking/throwing away his dictionary and revision guides as I have 2 more dc to go!

Friend's son had melt down last night. NO exams today, but whole family wrecked with supporting him (he has stress problems)

Ds has been on study leave since last Friday, I think it is better. Just having 1 or 2 days when he doesn't have to get up so early really helps him I think.

ready dd goes next door too, and next dd starts there is Sept.
my ds and your dd probably know each other!!
