Secondary schools in Surrey

Hi - we are currently looking at secondary schools near Weybridge for our DS. Currently considering StGeorges, Reeds, Hampton, Claremont Fans, Halliford but would really like to narrow it down. He is bright but not super sporty. Mixes with girls as much as with boys so leaning towards St Georges and Claremont. But its very hard to find reviews of Claremont. Would love to hear any feedback on any of the above.

@baby109 are you currently in the state or private sector? You have got a range of ability schools on your list. Is your ds currently in year 5?
Claremont Fan is increasing popular helped by the new head.

@gingercat1223 we are currently in private year 5 equivalent but not in the UK. All the schools will facilitate our application from abroad which is great. Would you say St Georges and Hampton are at the top? Do you know what kind of changes are being made at Claremont Fan?

Hampton is above the other schools in terms of academic excellence, it's on a par with RGS in Guildford and Kings Wimbledon. It is difficult to get into and your ds needs to be naturally bright and good at maths and English. A local parent would be unlikely to be considering both Hampton and Halliford by year 5.
Reeds is sporty (no football) but I'm sure mumnetters will be able to give a view on a non sporty ds at Reeds. St G's is popular for all the reasons you would have seen when you visited.
The number of spaces for ds in the Weybridge area for private entry at 11 is much reduced compared to girls be because there are many girls only schools as well as the mixed. The knock on effect is that schools such as Claremont Fan have become increasingly popular for ds, it's academic performance will improve as it attracts brighter candidates.

If you want to take on the challenge of Hampton then Hampton/Reeds/St G's and Claremont would be a good combination. If you drop Hampton then add in Halliford. 4 schools is reasonable, most dc sitting these schools will be taking at least 3 exams.

@gingercat1223 - I should also add the while DS is pretty bright (IQ 127) he needs some encouragement in applying himself and I would say would be more suited to a school that is quite nurturing - so hence the range we are looking at I guess.

You can PM me if you want more info on Hampton, (you have to send from a computer not the app). Hampton is nurturing but everyone there is bright.

@baby109. Personally if your ds is not sporty I wouldn't send him to St Georges. Have 2 dc there and looking to move. Fabulous for them when they are sporty but not so much for the non sporty.
