Hello All,
We are currently in Whyteleaf South and looking for a private bus service or any other private transport suggestions to take our daughter to Non Such Grammar School in Chem and bring her back home during term time. Private taxi services are very expensive and public transport is very complicated Any contacts for a private optionbwill be welcome. Thanks

It is a bit of a trek. Are you on the waiting list for Wallington Girls or do you have a preference for Nonsuch? I've not heard of a private bus service.

Thanks TansyViola. We have a confirm place at both schools currently and have to accept any one of them in next few days. We live closer to Wallington Girls but as my daughter is musical I m keen to send her to Nonsuch. Also I see that Nonsuch performance in academic is better than Wallington girls . The distance is the only issue unfortunately and hence looking at Private transportation options.

Public transport is not complicated - train from Whyteleafe South to Cheam involves only two changes and takes 58 minutes in the morning.
Any private arrangement involving road travel could take just as long and be unreliable. Can you imagine going through Purley Cross at 5hat time of day?

public transport is very complicated

Train to Easr Croydon then bus?

Has TfL withdrawn a direct service you assumed your DD would get, back when you submitted your CAF? How will they get there? is a question that some people reconcile before they name a school as one of their preferences...

What route is that Bluebonnie? Trouble is with three trains so much can go wrong and she'd end up late. I agree going by road would be hideous too though. I'd go with the nearer Wallington Girls option if i were the op. Train to Purley then bus. The bus to Purley would be very slow at that time.

Is there really much difference in the academics?

Also consider friendship groups. People going to nonsuch will be coming from Kingston way and probably well out into Surrey. That's a long way to meet up with anyone out of school.

It seems a little mad to consider travelling such a way and arranging private transport when wally girls is much nearer.

What other options are you thinking of - lift sharing or splitting costs with another family?

If both schools are ”superselective”, and journey is shorter and easier to one, why not just go for that one?

Or accept that DD will be spending large amounts of time and energy commuting, or that taxi transport will cost you a lot of money.

Or move house.

I think it's crazy to choose Nonsuch when you live so much closer to Wallington Girls. Wallington is a really good school and they do music like any other school and I know they do some orchestras/drama etc with Wilson's School (the local boys' grammar), which puts a big emphasis on music.

My daughter is going to Nonsuch in September so I certainly don't have anything against it, but Wallington is just as good and much nearer for you. It's not like you're choosing between Nonsuch and some terrible school.

We went to see nonsuch a couple of years ago and I remember the headteacher in her speech talking about journey times and ensuring your daughter could get there independently.

Tansy - 0703 train to Cheam from Whyteleafe South involves first change at Purley, then Purley to Norwood Junction, last bit from Norwood Junction to Cheam. I certainly wouldn’t choose that for an 11 year old girl.

Train to Wallington is not dissimilar, just 3 fewer stops on the last leg, 9 minutes quicker, and quite a long walk to the school. There may be a bus from Wallington station to Wallington Girls, not sure.

Train to Purley then 127 bus to Wallington Girls is a lot quicker. About 30 mins
