My son got our 4th choice school...not bad but not the best choice for us.

Got a letter to say he hadn't been offered his 2 highest choices, I called and he is 2nd on wait list for both schools. Soooo close yet so far away. So much is flying around my head.... do we tell ds he's 2nd on the list, How long do we leave it before buying uniform for school number 4, is he going to get a place or not....

Has anyone else found out their wait list places???

Not got much help to offer but wanted to say that I share your pain! DD is 5th on the waiting list for our first choice...

dee73 · 28/03/2019 17:24

We're 6th place for 380 pan. What's the PAN. 2nd place good place to be as so much time left yet.

Personally, I wouldn't tell DS until you know that he has a place (if indeed he gets one - he must stand a great chance!). It will only confuse him.

With uniform etc, I would assume you can buy things like pencil cases, rucksacks etc now, and they will do for any of the schools he might get. Compare the uniform lists of the three potential schools - if they all wear white shirts and black trousers, you can buy those now and wait to buy the tie, logoed sweatshirt etc. I would actually wait until the summer, to allow for growth, but put some money aside each week if that would be easier for you.

Hollowvictory · 28/03/2019 18:16

Why would you bit uniform 6 months in advance? Your child may grow. Our school. Holds a uniform sizing evening in June.

Tomtontom · 28/03/2019 18:22

Remember that waiting list places can change, there might be other applicants that push him down the list.

I hope you get a place, but don't mention it to your son and don't think about uniforms for any school until summer (or buy from somewhere with a generous returns policy!).

BeautyWasTheBeast · 28/03/2019 19:57

The schools are grammar so anyone who wants to go on the waiting list now goes onto the end of the list.

The pan is 160 for each school

I wouldntbe buying yet but would be trying to price up....and I was meaning more if the wait lists move all the way until term starts then what point in the summer do I start buying....it's annoying to say the least. If he was like 50on the list we'd know he has no chance and just but for the school allocated.

My son was about 28th on the list for a grammar school ( super selective south London) at this time last year. I thought it was hopeless but rang again at the end of the summer holiday and he’d gone up to 2nd place so I realised he had a chance. He was offered a place on day 3 of term.
I hadn’t told him about the waiting list and spent the summer bigging up the comprehensive.
There are variables, if there are lots of other choices for kids who have taken the grammar’s Entrance test ( other grammars/ independents) and a mobile population then your son has an excellent chance. If not, I would think he still has a chance as he’s very high up the list. But as an insurance policy, be careful to project lots of positivity re the school he’s been allocated, and maybe contact the school to ask about its provision for the more able pupils.

The schools are grammar so anyone who wants to go on the waiting list now goes onto the end of the list.

Um, no they don't- they go on the waiting list where they should be ranked on the waiting list. So e.g. if the list is ranked purely on score, they are ranked with everyone already on the list, according to their score

Who told you that they go on the end of the list? A little light reading for them here (btw it's the law and all schools have to abide by it, including grammar schools):
www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/389388/School_Admissions_Code_2014_-_19_Dec.pdf

Waiting lists
2.14 Each admission authority must maintain a clear, fair and objective waiting list until at least 31 December of each school year of admission, stating in their arrangements that each added child will require the list to be ranked again in line with the published oversubscription criteria. Priority must not be given to children based on the date their application was received or their name was added to the list...

BeautyWasTheBeast · 29/03/2019 07:47

That's what the council admissions person said over the phone.

Just read the admissions and it says ...Reallocation requests received after 15 March 2019 for secondary schools and 1 May 2019 for primary schools, will be dealt with in order of date received.

Maybe someone has misinterpreted that.

Our local boys grammars always over-offer, anticipating that some turn them down. Do yours do the same? That might impact how likely 2nd place is to get in before the start of the school year. The 11+ exams forum will probably know, if you don't!

Hey, my child was on the waiting list for 6 months and now shes in y8 she has finally got a call back
