Hi, we will be returning to Haslemere from overseas when DC due to start Yr 7 in a couple of years time. Does anybody have recent experience of Woolmer Hill? Is this the state secondary all the Haslemere kids go to or are there other options in the area. And if so, are they any good?! Many thanks.

The other local option is Bohunt in Liphook. I'm a few years out of date now, but Bohunt used to be more highly regarded than Woolmer Hill.

Bohunt now has a 6th form too and is around 3 times the size of Woolmer Hill (mainly I think because lots of Haslemere children go to Bohunt).

Thanks fifthtimelucky. I will add it to the list although we are not in catchment area, so not sure if an option. Anyone else have thoughts on these two schools?

Look at Bohunt or TPS.

JooLoo · 22/03/2019 14:40

What is TPS CherryPavlova?

The Petersfield School

In the other direction, I have known Haslemere children get into Rodborough.

CherryPavlova · 22/03/2019 18:54

Apologies. I haven’t heard it called it’s full name in many moons. Midhurst Rother takes Haslemere children too and is one quite sought after. Bohunt certainly has a very good reputation.
TPS is often overlooked because it has Ditcham and Churchers on its doorstep but parents I know who have used it have been very happy.

TPS has really improved massively in comparison to Bohunt since they joined it's Academy Trust ...results are great. It used to suffer not only from the private school comparison but also from the Bohunt comparison which was seen as the more 'academic' but apparently best in area now. It's a very large happy school with lots going on, I know Bohunt has lots going on in terms of extracurricular too. Both schools used to take way out of catchment so I suggest giving them a call to get a feel for their intake. Their is also lots if movement on waiting lists as those who apply to the private schools apply to the local state schools too.

Lots from TPS and Bohunt also travel to Godalming College for sixth form which has a great reputation.

There not their..

Thanks, some great advice. Do I take it that Woolmer Hill does not have as good a reputation as some of those mentioned above?

I can't say as I don't have experience of Woolmer but to be fair most schools in that area are good at least ...will you be able to visit before?

Fifthtimelucky · 23/03/2019 16:25

Woolmer Hill's reputation did not used to be good. Lots of Haslemere children went to Bohunt in order to avoid it. However, the most recent Ofsted report is good and I'd say things have definitely improved.

It's on a nice site, and is much smaller than Bohunt (which some people may consider an advantage).

I live in Haslemere and have a Ds in yr 7. This year my sons friends are pretty evenly split between WH and Bohunt. One of my best friends DDs is at Midhurst Rother - bus goes from top of town. WH has been improving on gcse results year on year and two local friends who teach have sent kids there in the last 3/4 years. I looked at B and felt it was just too vast - I have bright kids, but feared they’d get lost in the crowd. The facilities are great and there are millions of clubs!
