Nonsuch v G&L

Have accepted offers at both Nonsuch and G&L. Leaning towards Nonsuch as fees for private school will be paid as a result of ex partners’ job which is far from secure. If fees were not paid by ex-partner - I could probably keep DD and DS in private school for just one more year. The pros of Nonsuch - diversity, I liked the head, facilities seemed good but journey is 1 hour. G&L probably has edge on sport and music (DD likes both) and has better exam results and is 45 minutes away. Do I take the risk on the private option? DD is bright and a hard worker and doesn’t have a strong preference. Academically, she is likely to do well at both. What is driving me to take the risk with the private option is the confidence private schools install in their pupils. It seems to give you a massive advantage in life (I went to a comp). In my work place, I walk past the privately educated sitting in their glass offices every day. Any thoughts appreciated.

I can't comment on G and L nor on private/financial risk but know a bit about Nonsuch as my daughter has a place starting Sept and I have discussed it quite a bit with a contact whose daughter has been attending for a few years. Her daughter is very musical and this is really encouraged. There seems to be a lot on offer for music lessons and clubs/choirs. I had a good feel when I toured and the pastoral care aspect appealed to me, and the contactI spoke to confirmed that this is the case rather than just lip service.

The journey you say is quite long to Nonsuch which would be a factor if I was deciding. My daughter is not au fair with public transport and would probably find this lenght of commute difficult, but your may be different. But equally if I thought a strong likelihood of having to pull my child out of private due to finances after a few years that would put me off. I see your dilemma! Good luck with it all.

If money will be a worry then 100% go for Nonsuch, the journey is only 15 mins more.

THanks for replying. Am not naturally a risk taker!
