advice on bursaries

my son has been offered a means tested bursary, but it isnt very huge. I dont know how many have been offered, and we have 3 weeks to accept - is there any chance that I could go back and ask for more? If not all those offered are taken up, would that be more in the pot potentially?

Has anyone ever done this and had any success, and if so how do I go about it? Do I write to the head?

That's a lovely story.

I've only just seen your thread but around 12 years ago, my friend's DD was offered a music scholarship. Parents are both freelance musicians and went back to the school as you did and explained that they just couldn't afford the fees. Their DD ended up with a 90% bursary. DD did really well there and it helped launch her to where she is now.

This came up on my watch list. That school was the making of him. Even though we had covid and lockdown to contend with, they really helped to build his confidence and he was awarded the headmasters 'all rounder' bursary to stay for years 12 and 13, which really took the pressure off, and made up for the disrupted covid years. When it came to A levels they arranged for him to have 1-2-1 and sit in with year 13s for year 12 for photography as it didnt fit the timetable - he is good at arts and maths - so that he could do his choices.
He went on to an art foundation as a 'gap year' so that he could get some more life skills whilst managing his timetables in a safe environment (he has ASD) and he came out with a distinction and a prizewinner award from a big local gallery. He had already secured an unconditional offer to do any computing/ design or development subject in the games dept at Falmouth which he had deferred to this year, and Im so proud that he is flourishing there.
Im so glad that the people on here encouraged me to not give up.
